No matter what device you own, there is always going to be that one itch about rearranging or customizing the device’s home screen. Concerning gaming consoles, the Nintendo Switch is one such device that its users love to rearrange icons of the installed titles on the home screen. So, if you own the Nintendo Switch or planning to get one soon and want to know if you can do some sort of game icons arrangement, you have come to the right place. Let’s get started.
Sort Game Icons in Nintendo Switch
When it comes to the Nintendo Switch you cannot organize the game by your choice or wish. In this case, you can only sort them by the duration played or simply create group folders if you plan to arrange or sort your games by your choice. Freeform arrangement of games is not available. Your games appear first based on when you have recently played a game. So what can you do in terms of home screen icon arrangement?
Organize Apps On the Home Menu via All Software View
One of the view options on the Nintendo Switch is that you can choose to view all software provided you have 13 or more apps or games installed on your Nintendo Switch. If you have below 13, you will not get any options to sort or organize. So, if you are okay with the organizing options that the Switch has for you, you can follow these steps.
- On the Home menu screen of your Nintendo Switch, tap on the All Software option present on the right-hand side.
- Once you have selected it press the R button on the right-hand Joy-Con.
- Now, you will get 4 different options to sort your games on the Nintendo Switch.
- These are the sorting options you get.
- By Most Recently Played
- By Title
- By Publisher
- By longest Total Play Time
As you can see these are the limited options that the Switch gives you to sort out the games that are installed. However, you can sort and organize the games on your Switch by creating folders or groups on your Nintendo Switch. For this, you need to make sure that your Switch is running on version 14.0.0 or newer. If you want to know the steps to update your Nintendo Switch, you can follow the steps listed below.
Check For Updates On Your Nintendo Switch
To use the groups feature on your Nintendo Switch, you will have to update your Switch to the latest available update. As long as your Switch is running on update version 14.0.0 only then you can create these groups and arrange your game icons.
- On the Home Menu of your Nintendo Switch, select the System Settings icon.
- With the System Settings page open on your Switch, scroll and select the System option from the left side of the screen.
- Now, select the System Update option present on the right-hand side of the screen.
- If there are updates, the Switch will begin to download them right away.
- Once the update has been downloaded, and installed, to the latest available version, you can now follow the steps to create groups.
Rearrange Game Icons in Nintendo Switch via Software Groups
Before we dig into how you can create groups on your Nintendo Switch, you must have at least 13 or more games installed to access the groups option.
- From the HOME Menu screen on your Switch, select the All Software option.
- Now, Press the L button on the Joy-Con to select the Groups option.
- A pop-up will appear asking you to create a group. Just select Create New Group.
- Once you have a group created, press the + Button.
- Now, you can choose what games you would like to be added to this group. You can select a total of 200 games or apps for your group.
- Once all titles have been selected, select the blue next button.
- Inside this group, you can rearrange titles in any order that you like. With the rearranging done, select Next.
- Now name your group and tap Ok. And that is how you can create a group and then arrange your games however you like.
This concludes the guide on how you can arrange the app icons on your Nintendo Switch. Yes, it does feel unnecessary to first create a group and then get the option to arrange the titles according to your choice. However, we can hope that Nintendo provides an option in a future update where you get to simply arrange the app icons according to your choice.
