Last month, when Google released the Android 16 developer beta, many speculated whether the Pixel 6 would receive the stable Android 16 update. Putting all doubts to rest, Google has now clarified these concerns by updating its software update policy page.

Tech Titan, Google promised three years of OS updates for Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold. However, the company has updated its software policy, and as per the updated policy, all three phones are eligible for five years of OS upgrades.

If you own the Pixel 6, then your device will get Android 16 and Android 17 updates. If you’re using Pixel 7 or Pixel Fold, the final update will be Android 18 in 2027. Additionally, these phones will get more Pixel Feature Drops and Security updates.

One thing to note is that the policy remains the same for Pixel Tablet. It will get three OS updates and support five years of security updates.

For the time being, the policy remains the same for the new Pixel 7 and newer phones. Additionally, if you own any Google Pixel device older than Pixel 6, it will no longer get any new Android and security updates.

Google is expected to release the stable version of Android 16 in Q2, and every Pixel device will get the update at a similar time. Android 16, in particular, is expected to bring a big list of new features and enhancements. The first beta confirms the addition of Privacy Sandbox, embedded Photo Picker, and APIs that support health records in Health Connect.
