Meta has been diligently working on improving WhatsApp, evident in this particular new feature that allows users to use multiple accounts on WhatsApp. Last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg officially confirmed that WhatsApp will soon support two accounts on Android, and now, it’s finally happening.

Needless to say, make sure you have a multi-SIM or eSIM-compatible smartphone, which is required for setting up the secondary account on the device. For the time being, the multiple accounts feature is limited to Android users only, but it is expected to be made available for iPhone users in the future.
Prior to the release of the new feature, you would have to rely on separate phones or third-party apps to use multiple accounts on the same device. Now you can officially set up multiple accounts in the official version of the WhatsApp app, let’s take a look at the steps of how you can use multiple accounts.
How to Add Second Account on WhatsApp
First things first, make sure you own a multi-SIM or eSIM-compatible smartphone and the newest version of WhatsApp installed on your smartphone. If your WhatsApp isn’t up to date, you can check if there’s any update pending in the Play Store. Once you are on the latest version, you can follow these steps to add a second account.
- Open WhatsApp on your Android smartphone, tap the three dots menu icon at the top right corner.
- Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- You will see your account information at the top along with a QR code button and a drop-down icon, tap the drop-down icon.
- Tap the Add Account option to set up a secondary account.
- On the next page, tap the Agree and Continue option. Then, type in the phone number which you want to use for the second account.
- You need to verify it either through call or SMS.
- Once done, enter the profile information which includes the display picture and profile name, then tap Next.
- That’s it.
How to Switch Between Multiple Accounts on WhatsApp
With the second account setup completed, you should also know how you can switch between two accounts on WhatsApp. Open WhatsApp on your device, then tap three-dots menu icon at the top right corner and select Switch Accounts option. Choose the account that you want to use, you will instantly get access to your secondary account.
When you have two accounts set up on your WhatsApp, you will get notifications of both accounts. Yes, WhatsApp officially confirmed that, “the idle account will receive notifications for new messages and calls.” However, you need to switch between two accounts to access new chats.
Keep in mind that the official method supports two numbers, while, the third-party clone apps support up to four accounts.
How to Remove the Second WhatsApp Account
In case, you want to change the phone number or remove the second account, you can do it anytime. Do note that removing account will not delete your WhatsApp account, follow these steps to remove secondary account.
- Open WhatsApp on your phone and tap three-dots menu icon.
- Select Settings, then tap the Account option.
- Now tap Remove Account option and tap Remove account option.
- That’s it.
