Regarding Microsoft bridging updates to the Windows 11 operating system, its law is a mixed bag. You see, sometimes the updates contain useful features, and at times, there are just things that annoy the Windows 11 operating system users. Recently, Microsoft rolled out a new update KB5036980 to Windows 11 PCs. Now you might ask, well what’s wrong with a new update for Windows 11?
You see, this is not just some update that brings new features or fixes any existing issues. This update brings ads aka recommendations to the Start menu on Windows 11. Microsoft will not call them ads because they feel these are just recommendations for different apps. But, to the public, they are just ads. However, there is a relief as you can remove these recommendations i.e., ads from the Start Menu on your Windows 11 PC.
Remove Windows 11 Start Menu Recommendations
Microsoft calls these little ads – recommendations, as they simply are a list of curated apps being shown on the Start menu so that users can discover such apps and make use of them if they like them. However, for most users out there, app suggestions – especially from the Microsoft Store mean nothing to them. People are either using web apps via their choice of web browser or are just playing games from whatever launcher they prefer.
But, can you turn off these ads or recommendations from displaying on your Windows 11 Start menu? Yes, you can. It is so simple that it will just take you a few seconds to turn these recommendations off. So, if you have already installed the latest update and do not want to see or remotely care about the recommendations, follow these steps.
- Open the Settings app from the Start menu.
- Now, click on Personalization from the left side of the Settings app.
- Now, click on the Start option.
- Switch the toggle to Off next to where it says Show Recommendation of tips, new apps, shortcuts, and more.
- Additionally, switch the toggle to off where it says Show Recommendations for files.
- For a safe side, choose your Start menu layout to the More Pins layout style.
And that is how you can remove or disable ads and recommendations from the Start menu on your Windows 11 PC.
Closing Thoughts
This concludes the guide on how you can turn these app recommendations off. At least it is a decent thing that Microsoft gives you the option to run these off. Of course, the community would find some other ways to turn the features off if there is no option provided by Microsoft themselves.
