It’s been three years since Sony introduced the WH-1000XM5 headphones, and they continue to rank among the best in the industry. Undoubtedly, the audio quality is exceptionally good on these headsets, but they also offer a great set of features to enhance the listening experience.

One such useful feature available on the Sony WH-1000XM5 headsets is support for multiple device connectivity. Similar to the WH-1000XM4, you can connect two devices to the XM5 headsets. But the feature is disabled out of the box, you need to activate it manually.

If you want to connect your Sony XM5 headsets to two devices, you landed in the right place. In this article, you will learn everything about the support of multiple devices on the Sony XM5.

Connect Your Sony WH-1000XM5 to Two Devices Simultaneously

Thanks to Bluetooth Multipoint support, you can connect your Sony XM5 headsets to up to two devices simultaneously. The feature comes in handy while listening to music on a laptop and simultaneously receiving a call on the smartphone, allowing for a seamless transition between devices without interruption.

Let’s take a look at how multipoint Bluetooth support works with the Sony XM5 headsets.

Switching Music Playback Between 2 Devices: When the music or video is playing on both devices, you can switch devices either by navigating the Sony | Headphones Connect app and choosing the connected device from multi-device support.

The other way to switch the music playback between 2 devices is by pausing the music on one device, you will automatically listen to the audio playing on the second device. If you pause the audio on one device you will start listening to the second device’s music.

Waiting for an incoming call for 2 smartphones: No matter which device is playing music, you will still receive call notifications from both connected devices. You can answer calls from either phone when a call comes in.

If you’re in the Android ecosystem, you may face a drawback – Multipoint connectivity does not support the high-quality LDAC Bluetooth codec. However, if you’re in the Apple ecosystem, this won’t be a concern, as Apple devices do not support LDAC.
