Google’s September 2024 update now rolling out to Pixel Phones

Google has released the September 2024 update for its Pixel phones. This is a monthly update that addresses bugs and improves security. No, it’s not based on Android 15 update, the major Android 15 is scheduled for release in mid-October for Pixel devices.

The latest September 2024 security update is available for all Pixel phones eligible for Android 14. This means Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel Fold.

As for the build number, the update is seeding with AP2A.240905.003.F1 for the Pixel 6 lineup, AP2A.240905.003.A1 for Pixel 8a, and AP2A.240905.003 for other models. The build number also varies according to your carrier. Remember this is a small monthly update with only a few visible changes and improvements.

Google Pixel September 2024 Update

Google’s September 2024 update for Pixel brings the following changes:

  • Security
    • Fix to remove third party APK to address security vulnerability
  • Wi-Fi
    • Fix to improve wireless (Wi-Fi) stability and performance in certain conditions

The WiFi fix is exclusive to Pixel 9 lineup. So if you’re having WiFi problems on your Pixel 9 phone, this update may fix the issue.

As usual, the monthly Pixel update is rolling out in batches and should roll out to all eligible devices by the next week. This will be available in OTA format, so all you need to do is download and install it from the System Update settings.

If you are curious to know about Android 15, Google has delayed it till mid-October. Although the tech giant has released the Android 15 source code in AOSP, Pixel users have to wait for another month. Those who are using an Android 15 build and want to prepare for the stable release, can opt out of the beta program.

Note: Don’t forget to take a backup of your data before installing any update.
