Apple seeds watchOS 7.6.1 Update with security improvements

Last week, Apple kicked-off watchOS 7.6 to public with new features and fixes. Now Apple Watch receives yet another public update, the newer version is 7.6.1 and it is an important security update. Apple plants the security update on Apple Watch with 18U70 build number. It is a small patch with a size of around 64MB, so you can quickly update your Apple Watch to the newer software. Three days ago, Apple released iOS 14.7.1 update which was a security update and bring fix to bug which doesn’t allow iPhone models with Touch ID to unlock Apple Watch with unlock with iPhone turned on.

iPhone users running on iOS 14.7.1 can easily sideload the latest watchOS 7.6.1 update on their Apple Watch. The update is available to Apple Watch series 3 or newer models. You can follow the below steps to update your Apple Watch to the newest build.

Note: You’ll not lose any data if you update your Apple Watch through the airborne update (aka OTA).

Prerequisites:

  • Make sure that your Apple Watch is charged to at least 50% and connected to the charger.
  • Make sure that your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Make sure that your iPhone is running on iOS 14.7.1.

  1. At first, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on My Watch.
