Xiaomi 15 users are now getting the Android 16 update through a pilot release. The Android 16 update for Xiaomi 15 is still based on HyperOS 2.0. The pilot release is like a final beta build available to select users. Xiaomi 15 users from various regions, including the US, have reportedly received the Android 16 pilot release.
Android 16 was officially released by Google last month, and as of now, its stable build is only available for Pixel devices. It would be interesting to see if Xiaomi 15 will be the first non-Pixel device to get stable Android 16 or if users will have to wait a bit longer. Alternatively, Samsung could take the lead as the Galaxy S25 is planned to receive the stable Android 16 build later this month.
The Android 16 update for Xiaomi 15 comes with build number 2.0.217.0.WOCMIXM. The update weighs 7.8GB, which was expected since it’s a major one. So, make sure to download it over WiFi if you’ve received the update.
Currently, the changelog or details about the features in the Android 16 pilot release aren’t available to us. You can expect some basic changes with Android 16, but the major features are likely to come with the release of HyperOS 3.
As mentioned earlier, this is a pilot release rolling out to beta users. If the build seems perfect for the public, the same version will be rolled out to users in batches. It may take a few weeks for the stable Android 16 update to reach everyone.
