PlayStation 6 Canis is the next gaming console from Sony that is currently in development. This new gaming handheld is expected to launch between 2027 and 2028. The release window for the device, as well as the price, is still unconfirmed, considering the availability and prices of hardware such as RAM, storage, and CPUs are still unstable. So, until Sony officially announces the handheld, take all the news and details of the device with a pinch of salt.

PlayStation 6 Home Console Expected Release Timeline
The home console PlayStation 6 is code-named Orion, and looking at the lead documents, this console is expected to be launched between the end of 2027 or between 2028 and 2029. The new console, according to leaks, is expected to be a large generation jump from the PS5 to the PS6 as compared to the gap between the PS4 and the PS5.

According to these leaks, Sony is looking to make the PS6 a very powerful console that has support for next-generation ray tracing and also bring in backwards compatibility for games from the PS4 and PS5 generations of consoles; however, it is unclear if there will be a disc version for the PS6 or if it will be like an external drive 0 similar to what we have seen with the PS5 Pro.
What Does It Mean for the Future of PlayStation?
Well, to keep the competition against Xbox, Sony seems to be prioritizing performance improvements from the previous generation of consoles by a huge margin, so wide that there will be visible differences between the current and next generation of consoles. As games become demanding, the performance and graphics on consoles also need to level up, or at least be in line with the gaming PC counterparts. However, it all comes down to price, game compatibility, and whether there are dedicated exclusives on the PlayStation platform.
