The wait is finally over! Nothing has officially announced the Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 open beta, and the best part is that the beta program goes live for four phones. The list includes the Nothing Phone 3, Phone 2, Phone 2a, and Phone 2a Plus. If you have one of these smartphones and want to try out the Nothing OS 4.0 open beta, read on to learn more.

Nothing Community Admin, Rob has shared a new post that reveals all details about the open beta program. The update brings some major changes, including the AI usage dashboard in Essential Space for Phone 3, as well as general improvements and bug fixes. The list includes better lock screen and AOD performance, optimized brightness behaviour, enhanced camera stability, stronger Wi-Fi connectivity and network stability, and more.

Moving to the Phone 2 series, there’s a new “Stretch” camera preset, created with Photographer Jordan Hemingway. You can access the new preset by navigating Settings > Apps > App optimization.

Apart from these features, the open beta includes Pop-up View with two floating icons for faster switching, two new fonts for the lock screen, a 2×2 Quick Setting tile, and the Extra Dark Mode feature.

If you want to join the Nothing OS 4.0 open beta program, you need to update your smartphone to the latest software version or the following builds:

  • Phone (3): Metroid-V3.5-250911-2112
  • Phone (2): Pong-V3.2-250917-1451
  • Phone (2a): Pacman-V3.2-250904-1648
  • Phone (2a) Plus: PacmanPro-V3.2-250904-1704

If your phone is already on any of these builds, you need to install the Beta Updates Hub APK on your device. Here’s the download link shared by the Nothing team. When installed, navigate to Settings > System > Nothing Beta Hub, then tap Join Beta. After successful registration, tap “Go to Update” to upgrade.

TIP: If tapping “Go to Update” fails, check manually by heading to Settings > System > System updates and check for updates.

You can also rollback the stable Nothing OS 3.0 update if you want; the process is available in the same community post. The open beta program is open till October 14; you will not be able to join after this date.

If you own the Phone 3a series, you need to wait for a few more days, the company will launch the open beta program in October.
