Last month, Apple showed off the new iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence (fancy naming for AI tech) at its annual developer summit WWDC. iOS 18 is already available to developers and public beta testers.

Initially, Apple Intelligence features were expected to be released in September along with the upcoming iPhones. However, according to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new AI features will not be a part of a stable update.

Apple will kick start the beta testing of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1 as soon as this week, with the public release expected later in October. According to the people familiar with Apple’s rollout plan, the stability of Apple Intelligence features is a key reason behind this delay. This additional time allows developers to do better testing.

iOS 18.1 beta is expected to be released this week to developers for testing purposes. Apple Intelligence will be part of the iOS 18.1 beta and iPadOS 18.1 beta. It’s a pretty unusual schedule by Apple compared to previous years, the company does not release incremental beta until the current version of the update has been released.

This week’s beta update is expected to boast features such as Image Playground and Genmoji. The anticipated Siri upgrades are not expected until next Spring. Last month, Mark Gurman said that most Siri improvements won’t be available until 2025, the beta testing will begin in January and a public release will follow later.

If you are a tester, you can try out the new Apple Intelligence features on your iPhone. The update will be available for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max featuring A17 Pro chipset. Additionally, if you own iPads and Macs equipped with M1 or later chips, you can join the beta to try out the new features.
