Everyone is excited about Apple’s upcoming smartphone. As you would expect, the new iPhone is going to be called the iPhone 16 and it’s going to be yours with a ton of new features. From AI smarts to improved cameras and of course top of top-of-the-line hardware, the iPhone 16 is going to be one of the best smartphones for 2024.

With a couple of months left for Apple’s annual Fall Event, the rumor mill for the iPhone 16 line-up seems to be running in full swing. Could there be a new top-of-the-line iPhone 16? Will the AI features be free forever? Is the A18 Pro Bionic going to be standard for all iPhone 16 models? Well, if you’re looking for answers to those questions, you’ve come to the right place.

When it comes to the iPhone, Apple always ensures that the devices not only have good software, but also good hardware for the software to do its job. So for the iPhone 16 lineup, more specifically the Pro lineup, we could see an improved set of cameras, new displays, a rumored new hardware button, and of course an upgraded SoC i.e., Apple Silicon A18 Pro. For the non-pro models, you can expect last year’s 15 Pro hardware to feature the base models for the iPhone 16 lineup.

iPhone 16 Release Date

Apple always announces its new iPhones at its Fall event that takes place in September. Alongside the iPhone, we can expect new iPads, Apple Watches, and possibly the new iPad 11 series. It is a matter of an odd 2 to 3 months for the new iPhones to come out. You can also expect pre-orders for the new iPhones to begin either on the same day or the next day.

With Apple introducing the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro models, expect Apple to carry the Dynamic Island on all iPhones for a few more years.

Towards the rear of the iPhone 16, we can expect the camera modules to be moved around a bit. According to the leaks, the camera setup will be more minimal, the iPhone 16 to feature two cameras on the back with a protruding camera layout. Here are the unofficial renders shared by a Weibo account, named, Fixed Focus Digital.

The old running joke of moving one camera either up or down will continue with the iPhone 16 series.

You can expect thinner bezels with a bunch of sensors and the front-facing camera sitting within the dynamic island itself. There are some reports, revealing thinner bezels on the upcoming iPhones. The leak suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro to feature the thinnest bezels on any smartphone. The information is shared by a known leaker, Ice Universe, and a Chinese source.

My friend confirmed that iPhone 16 Pro will reduce bezel, surpassing Galaxy S24 to become the world’s narrowest bezel mobile phone, which seems to be very close to the dream form.

iPhone 16 Color Options

Just like the iPhone 15 lineup from 2023, we can expect the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus to come in a variety of color options. However, with the Pro models, you can expect to see these models in shades of black and gray. The Pro models will come with a Titanium build, so expect the colors to have a Titanium prefix for the colors.

iPhone 16 – New Capture Button

Last year with the iPhone 15 Pro models, we got to see the new Action Button. This action button could be set up from a list of different functions. Rumors have it that the iPhone 16 lineup will come with a new Capture button. Whether this makes it to the non-models is something we will have to wait and see. The Capture button will be useful for those who capture photos and videos regularly.

Meanwhile, the Action Button should now trickle over to the base models of the iPhone 16 lineup. This will eventually mean the death of the alert slider that we have seen on iPhones for many years.

iPhone 16 Screen Sizes and Specs

The base iPhone 15 models are expected to come in screen sizes of 6.1 inches (15.49 cm)  and 6.7 inches (17.02 cm). The Pro and Pro Max models will have bigger screen sixes. You can expect the 16 Pro to come in at 6.3 inches (16 cm) and the Pro Max at 6.9 inches (17.53 cm). Regarding the screen types for the iPhone 16 models, all four devices will get to use OLED screens.

However, the refresh rate between the Pro and non-Pro models will still be followed by the iPhone 15 series. The standard base models get a 60Hz refresh rate, whereas the Pro models get a 120Hz refresh rate screen.

iPhone 16 CPU, Connectivity, and Ports

As it is with Apple, you can expect the brand new A18 Bionic CPUs for the iPhone 16 lineups. However, Apple likes to make things better on the Pro models, so expect the A18 Pro Bionic for iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. In terms of connectivity, you will get support for a lot of 5G bands, Wi-Fi 7 support, and of course, satellite calling and SMS that can be used during emergencies.

iPhone 16 Software Updates and AI

As it is with iPhones, the iPhone 16 will get 5 years of software updates. With the iPhone 16 coming with iOS 18 out of the box, you expect the lineup to be supported until 2029. So yes, you might be able to get until iOS 23 or 24 on your iPhone 16 lineup. Now, this remains the same until Apple decides to make some changes in the update cycle for its devices.

With iOS 18 out of the box, Apple users will finally be able to make use of the AI tools that have been integrated into the OS itself. Powered by ChatGPT, you can get fun AI stuff such as Magic Eraser, Audio to Text Transcription, Summarize Notes, and even get Smart Replies for your emails via the Mail app. You can read more about iOS 18 by heading here.

iPhone 16 Model Variants and Storage Options

The iPhone 16 like the iPhone 15 will be present in 4 options. You will have the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus as the base variant and the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max as the top-of-the-line variants. Storage options for the non-pro models start with the 128GB option and top out at 512GB.

Will Apple get rid of the 128GB model? No one knows.

iPhone 16 Battery Capacities

With the iPhone 15’s battery capacities having the ability to last more than a day, we can expect the iPhone 16 lineup to get even better battery backups. There will be slight improvements as compared to the iPhone 15 lineup.

  • iPhone 16: 3,561 mAh
  • iPhone 16 Plus: 4,006 mAh
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 3,355 mAh
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4,676 mAh

The battery capacities are expected, but not the final ones. For the final and official battery capacities, it is ideal to wait for Apple to officially publish such details. Concerning wireless MagSafe charging, you can expect the same 15W fast charging that we saw from the Phone 15 lineup. In terms of wired charging, it will be the same 20W. However, if Apple decides to bring better improvements, then ramping up the charging speeds to 25W or at least 30W should do the trick.

iPhone 16 Pricing

The iPhone 16 lineup which is slated for a release in September will have more or less the same launch price as that of the previous iPhone 15 lineup. However, there could be an increase of anywhere between $50 to $100 with the newer models. The base iPhone 16 could start at $799 followed by the iPhone 16 Plus at $899. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models could start at $1099 and $1199, respectively.

Closing Thoughts

This includes everything you need to know about the upcoming iPhone 15 lineup. Now, a lot of this information is solely based on previous years’ models and rumors that have been flooding the market. For the real deal on the iPhone, its pricing offers, and more, it would be advisable to wait until Apple officially reveals the devices in its event in September.
