iOS 18.6 Release Candidate is out: Get ready for the public update!

Summarize This Article:

Apple kicks off the week with the release of the iOS 18.6 release candidate for eligible devices. The tech giant has been testing the latest iOS 18.6 since last month, and after three beta builds, the release candidate is finally here.

Now that iOS 18.6 RC has been released, we can expect the public release to arrive next week. In case you’re wondering, an iOS 26 beta build is also expected this week, possibly as early as tomorrow.

Today, Apple released iOS 18.6 RC, iPadOS 18.6 RC, watchOS 11.6 RC, tvOS 18.6 RC, macOS Sequoia 15.6 RC, macOS Sonoma 14.7.7 RC4, macOS Ventura 13.7.7 RC4, and visionOS 2.6 RC. The iOS 18.6 RC comes with build number 22G84.

iOS 18.6 Release Candidate

As an iOS 18 user, you likely already know not to expect any major features in the upcoming updates. Since Apple’s focus now shifted to iOS 26, it is unlikely that new features or major changes will be included in the future iOS 18 builds. Instead, it will be focused on bug fixes and security improvements. The iOS 18.6 RC specifically addresses the following known issues:

  • Health data becomes inaccessible when you reach the “slide to power off” page on an iPhone or iPad without a passcode.

If you’re coming from iOS 18.5, you will find even more changes and fixes.

If you have an eligible iPhone and haven’t installed the iOS 26 beta, you’ll receive the iOS 18.6 RC as long as you’ve selected the iOS 18 beta option by going to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta updates.

Although this is a Release Candidate (RC) build, it appears as Beta 4 on the software update page, which is likely a mistake on Apple’s part. However, both the release notes and build number confirm that this is indeed the Release Candidate.

Before installing the update, make sure to back up your data. If you haven’t opted for beta, you can wait for the public release, which is expected to be released next week.
