One of the best features of the new 2021 iMac is its new screen saver flaunting Hello imagery from 1984’s Macintosh. If you like the Hello screen savers of the 2021 iMac and want to use it on your Mac then you’re at the right place. Here’s the step-by-step tutorial, by which you can get iMac Hello screen saver on Mac.
There’s a workaround which allow Mac users to sideload the new Hello screen saver of their Macs. The new Hello screen saver appears on the iMac with seven different color options along with three themes, languages, and match system appearance option. The best thing is you can sideload the new screen saver on both the Apple Silicon M1-based Macs and Intel-powered Macs. So, if your Mac is running on macOS Big Sur 11.3 or newer, then you can easily sideload the iMac’s Hello Screen Saver on your Mac.
Now, let’s dive right into the process.
How to Get Hello Screen Saver on Mac
Apple pushes the Hello screen saver with macOS Big Sur 11.3. By default, the screen saver is not enabled by default. The best part is, users can activate it on their Macs easily without sideloading any third-party app. All you need to do is, update your Mac to macOS Big Sur 11.3 or newer version.
Here’s how you can enable the new Hello screen saver on your Mac.
At first you need to open Finder on your Mac, by tapping on the Finder icon from the dock or you can press Option + Command + Space keys simultaneously and search Finder.
Now, from menu bar, click on the Go tab, then click on Go to Folder… option, or you can also press Shift + Command + G simultaneously.
Now enter the below-mentioned address in the text box, once done, click on Go button.
/System/Library/Screen Savers/
It will directly open the Screen Savers folder from your Mac’s system. As I said earlier the screen saver is available in macOS 11.3 or newer. So, if you’re running on the newer version, then you will find Hello.saver file in this folder.
Then, drag Hello.saver file to the desktop (or any folder in desktop), or you can simply copy paste the file to your Mac’s desktop. After moving the file, simply rename the Hello.saver file to any name of your wish.
Note: If you double-click on the screen saver without renaming, then it will throw an error. So, make sure to rename the hello screen saver file.
Now you can double-click on the screen saver file, it will open a pop-up window, you can click on the install button, it will ask you to enter password if prompted.
After sideloading the Hello screen saver, open the Desktop & Screen Saver from System Preferences, tap on screen saver tab.
Now scroll down and click on Hello screen saver to apply it as your current screen saver.
You can also click on Screen Saver options if you want to customize the Hello screen saver, you can switch between different themes (Spectrum, Soft Tones, or Minimal). You can also activate show Hello in all languages option or Match System Appearance (based on your Mac’s theme – light or dark).
All done, click on OK button.
Now whenever your Mac is in idle mode, you can see the new iMac’s Hello screen saver on your Mac. You can also preview the Hello screensaver if you want, from the Desktop & Screen Saver options.
