Asus kick-started its Android 16 rollout journey last month with the ZenFone 12 and ROG Phone 9. Today, the company has extended the availability of the major software upgrade to last year’s gaming phone. Yes, the Android 16 update is now rolling out to ROG Phone 8. Read on to learn more details.
Zentalk Forum’s community manager has officially confirmed the rollout. As per the details shared by the moderator, the update is seeding with 36.0210.1420.27 software version. ROG Phone 8 was launched last year with the Android 14 operating system. The phone received its first big software upgrade early this year, and now it’s time for another major software upgrade.
Asus is pushing the Android 16 update to ROG Phone 8 with a fresh set of features and changes. As it is a gaming smartphone, you will find some updated game profiles with this update. Luckily, Asus has also shared an official changelog on their announcement page. You can check the full changelog available below.
- Please back up your data before upgrading to Android 16.
- Upgraded system to Android 16.
- Updated Android security patch to 2025-12.
- Adjusted the system navigation settings. The Predictive Back animation can be triggered by either the back gesture or long-pressing the back button.
- Added the Notification cooldown setting: when many notifications are received within a short time, the device will lower its volume and minimize alerts.
- Added a power button option in the advanced setting, allowing users to configure quick access to the digital assistant by long-pressing the power button.
- Added the skip countdown button to the screen recording feature.
- Added Theft Protection entry: Settings > Security & Lock Screen > Theft Protection.
- Added Advanced Protection entry: Settings > Security & Lock Screen > Advanced Protection.
- Updated game profiles for the following games: Genshin Impact (WW), GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE (TW), GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE (WW), League of Legends: Wild Rift (TW), and League of Legends: Wild Rift (US).
- Some 3rd-party apps are not compatible with Android 16 yet.
For the time being, the Android 16 update for ROG Phone 8 is available to a small number of users. It will be available to everyone in the coming days. As it is a big upgrade, we recommend that you install the upgrade over a stable Wi-Fi connection.
Don’t forget to back up your data before installing the update. Also, charge your phone to at least 50% before installing the update.
