iPadOS 15 Features, Release Date, Supported Devices, and More

iPadOS 15 is the new major release of Apple’s operating system for the iPad. Apple just wrapped up the WWDC 2021 event with a bunch of new software update announcements including the iPadOS 15. Apple also announces iOS 15 and watchOS 8 in the event. So, if you are excited about the new iPadOS 15 and its features, then you are at the right place. In this article, we will talk about iPadOS 15 Features, Supported Devices, Roadmap and more.

It is not long ago when Apple starts rolling updates separately for iPhones and iPads, all this happen with the iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 release. And later in iPadOS 14, Apple introduced Home Screen widgets for the first time, expanded stock apps with unique iPad design elements like sidebars in Photos and Apple Music, new interfaces for Siri, phone calls, and more.

iPadOS 14 brought a new search experience, a system-wide handwriting recognition, and other changes designed to improve the iPad experience with Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard. And it will be interesting to see new iPadOS 15 features.

iPadOS 15 Features

Over the years, Apple has made changes to its internal development process for iPadOS updates that make it easier for developers to add and remove new features. This makes each yearly release more stable because they can remove features that are not ready. And as you know iPadOS generally comes with features similar to iOS except for a few exclusive features for iPad. So also check out our iOS 15 article.

Now let’s take a look at the expected iPadOS 15 Features.

New Notification Controls

iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 also come with a new Notification layout that groups the same type of notifications. Notifications now appear with contact photos and bigger app icons. Notification summary shows the collection of notifications based on the schedule which we can set manually. You can select Do not disturb mode and it will automatically set the DND for messages as well.

It let you customize notification settings depending on current activity, such as working, sleeping, or other categories.

iMessage Changes

iMessage has become an important feature of iPadOS. And with iPadOS 15, you can do even more with the updated iMessage. You can now access shared content directly from stock apps like Articles from the News app, Songs from Apple Music, Images from Photos, and more. In stock apps, there is a new ‘For you’ section where you can access shared content. And also you can now reply directly from other apps to the person who shared it with you. You don’t have to open Messages to reply.

Redesigned Home Screen with Widgets

iPadOS 15 Features

The iPadOS 15 introduces some new widgets that allow us to create a setup that makes accessing content easier. Not only this, but new size widgets also make the home screen view great.

You can now use Widgets along with the App icons on your iPad. Different Widget sizes make Widget placement easier.

App Library

Adding too many Widgets can send your frequently used apps to the last screen. And opening the app will take more time as you have to first scroll to the tab where your app icons are located. So, to tackle this situation, iPadOS 15 now comes with an App Library section which you can access directly from the dock in one tap. App library organizes apps and shows them in the cluster so that you can have all apps in one place.

Privacy

Apple is heavily investing in improving privacy of users, and with iPadOS 15 it is even better.

You can now check the Privacy report with data of apps that has access to permissions and to which third party domains they contact.

Multitasking

iPadOS 15 Features

Multitasking is probably the main feature of the iPad which is why users prefer iPad because it has a bigger screen and allows using more than one app. iPadOS 15 allows us to enable multitasking with just one tap on top. You can choose Split view to show two apps side by side.

To swap any app, just swipe down and choose another app you want. Shelf and keyboard are also other additions that take multitasking to the next level.

Quick Notes

Notes also received a major update that makes taking notes easier than before. iPadOS 15 also comes with Translate that works system-wide which you can also use during multitasking.

Swift Playground

iPadOS 15 Features

Swift Playground is another main highlight of the iPadOS 15 which allow developers to develop apps and games directly from your iPad. Don’t have a Mac, no worries, take your iPad and go on with your developer skills.
