Xbox Cloud Gaming arrives on iPhone, check how to use it!

Xbox Cloud gaming finally landed on the iOS. The ability to play Xbox games on almost any Apple device is possible now. Previously, this was only available for Android users. Browser-based Xbox Cloud Gaming has finally left the limited beta stages and is rolling out for iPhone, iPad and Windows 10 or Windows 11 PCs. In this article, we’ll tell you everything about Xbox Cloud Gaming on iPhone and iPad.

Also, the Backbone One, the iPhone controller joins the Designed for Xbox program, with specific features that are designed to make you feel like you’re playing on an Xbox or standalone device.

With this game streaming service, iOS users will be able to start or continue playing Xbox games without the need of a console or computer. You can even stop playing a game on your console or computer and then continue playing on your iPhones and vice versa. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Xbox Cloud Gaming, or xCloud, lets you play Xbox Game Pass games on a device other than a console by streaming them from the cloud, just like Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, and Nvidia GeForce Now. It works in the same way as Amazon’s Luna by using a web app to get around Apple’s App Store policies, which effectively shut out cloud gaming apps.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is a game streaming service package that includes Xbox Game Pass, which gives you access to a big library of Xbox and PC titles, and Xbox Live Gold. More importantly, it gives you access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which allows you to start playing certain Xbox games on other devices, like your iPhone or iPad. The best part about it is that it lets you continue a game you were playing on your Xbox from your iOS device and vice versa. You don’t need an Xbox in order to use this service. You just need a Microsoft account and an Xbox Game Pass subscription.

How much does it cost?

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $14.99 per month. However, you can get cheaper plans if you want to opt in for just PC games which is $9.99 per month or just console games which also is $9.99 per month. Getting the Ultimate deal for just a few bucks more per month is better since it also gets you Xbox Live Gold, which lets you play online games, and EA Play, which grants you access to the huge EA catalog of games for free.

Currently, there is a limited time offer which lets you subscribe to a three-month subscription for just $1.

Or, you can also purchase Backbone One. The Backbone One will come with three free months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (which will help you save $1 over Microsoft’s own current promo of three months for $1).

What are the requirements?

All iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) that want to use Xbox Game Pass (xCloud) should be running iOS 12.0 or later. Also, the app takes up 98.2 MB, so make sure you have enough storage space available on your device.

You don’t need a separate app to access Xbox Game Pass. Navigate to xbox.com/play with Safari on your device, and log in with your Microsoft account.

Accessing the app is free. However, you will need to pay a subscription fee in order to actually access any of the games.

Do I need a controller?

Yes, you will need an external controller since only a few games currently support touch controls. Microsoft recommends that players should use an Xbox Wireless Controller when playing games on xCloud. However, PS4 controllers work as well, since Microsoft wants this service to be available to a wide audience.

There are also iPhone controllers that are compatible with this service. These controllers basically turn your iPhone into a Switch with convenient buttons and joysticks on either side of the screen.

Or, you can also use Backbone One. The Backbone One uses a layout similar to that of Microsoft’s own Xbox controllers. It is compatible with all iPhones running iOS 13 or later. For instance, it already has a dedicated gameplay capture button, it can share the gameplay as a link, and because it is designed for use with all mobile games, it can serve as a central hub for those titles.
