As hinted yesterday through the Android Developers channel, the third beta of Android 16 is available today. With the Android 16 Beta 3, the testing has reached the platform stability milestone, which means developers can now publish apps with the Android 16 support. With the new beta, we are significantly closer to the official release.

The Android 16 Beta 3 is available for the following devices:

  • Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
  • Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
  • Pixel 7a
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel Tablet
  • Pixel 8 and 8 Pro
  • Pixel 8a
  • Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold

Android 16 Beta 3 for Pixel devices is available with build number BP22.250221.010. It includes the March Android Security Patch and doesn’t include major changes like the second beta, which was bigger. Since the third beta marks the Platform Stability milestone, we can expect fewer changes in upcoming betas. Instead, Google will prioritize fixing bugs and perfecting the buildโ€™s stability.

Google officially mentioned two changes in the third beta:

  • Local network permission – Apps with permission can communicate with devices connected to the same network.
  • Outline text for maximum text contrast – Outline text will help users with low vision to easily see the text on the screen.

Apart from the two mentioned above, there might be some other changes and new features, along with many hints about upcoming features.

The Android 16 Beta 3 is available to users who have enrolled in the beta program for their eligible Pixel devices. If youโ€™ve opted for the beta update, youโ€™ll receive it via over-the-air (OTA) updates.
