Android users and Android Auto fans! Google has just announced a new update for Android Auto to the world. Android Auto is generally used for navigation and the usual music streaming. However, with the new Android Auto update, Google is set to bring in more apps to the platform.

Google has stated that apps such as Max and Peacock will be coming soon to select cars with Google built-in. Angry Birds is another entertainment app coming to Android Auto that will only run when the car is parked.

Android Auto New Apps

Uber Drivers out there who have an Android Auto head unit can now use the Uber Driver app to accept rides and deliveries right away. The app also shows turn by turn navigation in the Android Auto.

Another big feature coming to Android Auto is the Google Cast. The feature first coming to Rivian, followed by other cars with Android Auto OS. If you want apps that are not available for streaming on Android Auto, you will be able to cast your favorite movies and TV shows using the Android Auto Cast feature. However, this will only work when the car is parked. You wouldnโ€™t want to be distracted while driving, right?

A native YouTube app is also coming to Android Auto starting with Rivian vehicles.

One good implementation by Google for Android Auto is that Google is reviewing which of the million mobile apps can now be suitable for Android Auto screens. Google explains three quality tiers that will help developers bring existing apps to cars if the app belong to a quality tier. This helps in many ways as more users will be able to use more apps and the developers are also able to reach a bigger audience.

Google has also shared the categories of apps they are accepting to bring on Android Auto. The availability of these categories varies between Cars with Android Auto OS and Cars with Google built-in. Here’s the current status.

Upcoming Apps for Android Auto

Coming soon to cars compatible with Android Auto and Cars with Google built-in are some cool new features. These features are currently in beta and will be coming soon to your cars. Video players, games, Web Browsers, messaging and VoIP services, and even the Weather app and updates are all getting ready for release this year.

So yes, car rides are going to be much fun with the arrival of new features, apps as well as entertainment services. However, these additions could also lead to little distraction, so we recommend using these features infrequently once they become available.
