Google has recently released its latest affordable phone, the Pixel 9a. The latest phone in the โaโ lineup comes with several improvements. However, many users are curious about its waterproof capabilities? Is there any improvement in this department, or is it the same as the Pixel 8a? Letโs find out here.
Durability is an important factor on a phone, and waterproof capability is one of the aspects that come under durability. While flagship phones are highly rated in water resistance and dust resistance, mid-range and budget phones often fall short in this regard.
Is the Pixel 9a Waterproof?
No, Pixel 9a isnโt waterproof, however, it is water resistant with an IP68 rating, which is comparable to flagship devices. Google has finally upgraded the water resistant rating in its budget Pixel lineup.
The Pixel 9a’s predecessor, the Google Pixel 8a, came with an IP67 rating. So Pixel 9a has received a significant upgrade without any change in its price.
Now some of you might already know about the water resistance rating, but if not, letโs understand about it here.
IP68 is an ingress protection rating that defines the protection level of dust and water resistance. The first number, 6, represents complete protection against solids like dust particles, which is the highest rating for solids. The second number, 8, represents protection against water immersion, which is also the highest rating for liquid ingress.
Devices with an IP68 rating can withstand submersion in fresh water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. However, itโs crucial to avoid your phone from coming in contact with any other liquid.
If you dropped your phone in water or exposed it to rain, but you managed to recover it quickly, there should be no damage.
The Pixel 9a is highly water-resistant, but itโs not waterproof. If you drop the device or damage the phone physically, it could lose its ingress protection rating.
Is Liquid Damage Covered Under Smartphone Warranty?
Smartphone companies donโt offer any warranty in case of water or liquid damage. The Pixel 9a is also not covered under warranty in such cases.
Things to avoid:
- Taking your phone into water activities and exposing it to high-pressure liquid.
- Dropping the Phone
- Disassembling your Phone
What to Do If Your Pixel 9a Falls in Water
If your phone comes into contact with water, you should take action immediately.
First, turn off your phone and try to dry the device using a clean, dry cloth. Donโt expose the device to extreme heat. You can use the normal temperature air to dry your device. Once the phone is completely dry, you can start using the phone. However, if there are any issues, visit the nearest service center to get it checked.
Note: Do not charge your phone when itโs wet. Only connect the charger once the phone is completely dry.
Google has improved the IP rating on Pixel 9a, which means it is protected against exposure in fresh water. But you should avoid your phone using it during water activities and take immediate action in case of water exposure.
