Earlier this week, Samsung unveiled a bunch of new Galaxy products, including its new foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Both phones come with several upgrades and are packed with a slew of new features.

Speaking of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, this year’s model starts with 12GB RAM, instead of 8GB seen on the previous generation models. But what about storage? Is there any upgrade or is there an SD card slot available on the Galaxy Z Flip 6?

Let’s find out everything in this article.

In 2024, phones are no longer just for calling and messaging. Nowadays, phones are also designed to capture breathtaking photos and videos, play games, web browsing, and more. One of the leading highlights of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is its camera thanks to the 50MP dual-lens camera setup and features like FlexCam. But you can’t just take unlimited photos or videos as every device has limited storage space.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 comes in two storage variants – 256GB and 512GB, similar to the last year. The ultra-premium book-style foldable, Galaxy Z Fold 6 is also available in a 1TB variant; however, this option is not available for the clamshell foldable. You might wonder if this storage is sufficient or if there is an option to insert an SD card for storage expansion.

Let’s see the answer to this question.

Does the Galaxy Z Flip 6 have SD card slot?

No, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 doesn’t have an SD card slot, you can’t expand the storage using a physical external SD card. This is not surprising, as the predecessor, Galaxy Z Flip 5 also doesnโ€™t come with an SD card slot.

SD card slots used to be very useful and common in all phones until a few years back. But nowadays, it is hard to find a device with an SD card slot, especially on premium phones.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is now available for pre-orders, and Samsung is offering a complimentary storage upgrade to those who pre-order before July 24. It means you will get the 512GB variant at the price of the 256GB variant, if you want to pre-order, you can visit this link and get some additional benefits of up to $650 in enhanced trade-in.

Are there any other options available to expand the storage on the Galaxy Flip 6? Yes, you can take a look here.

Choose a Higher Storage Variant

Everyone’s smartphone usage is different and if you’re a photographer, then you must go for the higher storage variant. However, if you know your storage needs based on your previous smartphone usage, then you can also go for the 256GB variant. If your usage is close to 256GB, consider choosing the 512GB variant to ensure your phone runs smoothly and you won’t have to limit your storage usage.

Cloud Storage

There are many popular cloud storage services that give you extra storage for a subscription fee, these are some popular services, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Mega, and more. On most Samsung phones, you can find One Drive linked to your stock Files app, which makes accessing files on the cloud easier.

If you have another cloud service subscription, you can install its app to access your files and folders. This is the only solution to extend storage permanently.

External Drive or SD Card

If you need extra storage space occasionally, then you can go for the external drive or SD card, however, keep in mind, choose a faster SSD drive for quick transfer. This solution is particularly useful for content creators, allowing them to transfer recordings to the drive and free up space on their smartphones to capture more photos and videos. You can easily connect your drive to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 using a USB cable and move files between both devices. Unlike monthly or yearly cloud service subscription, this is a one-time purchase.

If you have any good alternative to SD card slot for Galaxy Z Flip 6 users, share it in the comment section.
