Apple has released iOS 26.4 Beta 1 to developers, and it will soon be available to public beta users. This marks the beginning of testing for the next major update, which will be the fourth major update after the release of iOS 26.
Today, Apple released several other updates, including iPadOS 26.4 Beta 1, watchOS 26.4 Beta 1, tvOS 26.4 Beta 1, macOS Tahoe 26.4 Beta 1, macOS Sequoia 15.7.5 RC, macOS Sonoma 14.8.5 RC, and visionOS 26.4 Beta 1.
The first beta of iOS 26.4 comes with build number 23E5207q. Surprisingly, this beta update introduces several new changes, making it even bigger than the iOS 26.3 update.
- The iOS 26.4 Beta 1 finally brings End-to-End encryption for RCS messaging. However, the feature is currently in beta and is limited to certain carriers and devices.
- A new Apple Intelligence feature in Apple Music creates a playlist based on your text prompts and interests.
- The design of Apple Music has been refreshed, with new looks for Albums and Playlists.
- Apple Music also gets a new Widget for the Home screen, which gives quick access to Ambient music playlists.
- The wallpaper picker interface has been redesigned for a cleaner and more organized appearance. The wallpapers are not downloaded by default, which helps save storage space on the device.
- Apple Podcasts has introduced a new Podcast experience that allows seamless switching between Audio and Video. It also supports adaptive streaming quality.
- Stolen Device Protection is now enabled by default, which requires biometric authentication when a device is away from trusted locations.
There are several other minor changes and tweaks included in the iOS 26.4 Beta 1, along with the mentioned changes.
If you want to test the iOS 26.4 Beta 1, you need to choose either the developer beta or the public beta option from Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates. If you have already selected the beta option, you can download and install the iOS 26.4 Beta 1 update from the Software Update page.
Make sure to take a backup of your phone before installing the update.
