You can now Transfer Playlists between Apple and YouTube Music

Importing or moving your playlists between Apple Music and YouTube Music apps is now possible. Apple has already shared an official guide on how this works. The process is quite easy.

In the midst of boring tasks, what keeps us going? Our favorite songs organized in playlists, which are also travel companion. But when you want to listen to the same playlist on another app, things get complicated as you have to add each song to the playlist again on different apps. But now you can easily move your playlists with its songs.

Currently, it’s possible between Apple Music and YouTube Music, however, we can expect other popular apps like Spotify to also support transferring playlists to and from Apple Music or other apps.

Apple has stated all key points including that transferring playlists between these apps works as a copy function, so the playlist will be available on both devices after the transfer unless you manually delete it. So this is a good thing.

To move playlists between these two apps, you must have an Apple Music subscription. And of course, you need accounts on both platforms.

Transfer Apple Music Playlists to YouTube Music

  1. First, go to the Apple’s Data and Privacy Page.
  2. Log in to the page with your Apple ID. Same ID that you use on your Apple Music.
  3. Now select the option โ€˜Transfer a copy of your data.โ€™

  4. Next choose Apple Music followed by Playlists you want to transfer.

  5. It will give you a set of instructions that you need to follow including singing into the YouTube Music.

Once the transfer starts, you will see the progress on the Data and Privacy page, as well as the option to cancel it.

Transfer YouTube Music Playlists to Apple Music

If you have your playlist on YouTube music app and want to move them to Apple Music, you can follow these steps.

  1. Visit the Google Takeout page. If you’re not signed in to the browser you’re using, it will ask you to sign in.
  2. In the Takeout page, you will see the YouTube option. If there are multiple apps, select YouTube and hit continue.

  3. Next, select Apple Music in the third-party service.
  4. It will ask you to log in to your Apple Music account, and then you can start the transfer.

The process doesnโ€™t take a long, but if you have many playlists, it will take time. After transfer, if you donโ€™t see the playlist in the library, your library may be full.

Here are some points you might want to know:

  • If you donโ€™t see any song in the playlist you imported, it might not be available on that platform.
  • Only songs will be imported, other things like podcasts, audiobooks, and other audio files will not be transferred.
  • Non-collaborative shared playlists and curated playlists will not be transferred

Now you donโ€™t need to buy two subscriptions just because it is hectic to create a playlist on multiple apps. You can choose any app at any time and all your songs will be available without much effort. Remember currently it works between Apple Music and YouTube Music.
