Since this is a major update, expect the over the air update to be around 1GB.

MIUI 12.5 for Redmi Note 9
The MIUI 12.5 stable beta update is now rolling out for Redmi Note 9 for Indian and Global variant. Currently only Mi Pilot testers are getting this update, but if everything goes right, the same build will be released to the public. The update will arrive on the Redmi Note 9 device over the air. Sometimes we don’t get the update notification and in that case, you can check for the update manually by going to Settings > About Phone > MIUI Update. Luckily the Recovery file is available for those who want to immediately update their phones.

Before upgrading your smartphone, I recommend taking a backup, before diving into the process and charge your device to at least 50%. To sideload the recovery zip Redmi Note 9, you can flash it from the custom Recovery.
Once the installation process is completed, reboot your Redmi Note 9 before start using it. That’s it.
