Windows Subsystem for Android August update improves gaming experience

Microsoft releases a new Windows Subsystem for Android upgrade alongside the incremental insider preview build 22622.450. The latest subsystem update goes live on all Windows insider channels and brings a slew of new gaming-centric features and improvements. The latest version of Windows Subsystem for Android is tagged with the 2206.40000.15.0 version number and is limited to Windows 11 users in the US. The latest Android Subsystem upgrade enhances the gaming experience on Windows 11 by bringing joystick compatibility, gamepad compatibility, and support to the arrow keys for aiming and sliding. Yes, the directional movements are now possible with WASD keys. To get hands-on with the new gaming enhancements on Windows Subsystem for Android, you need to upgrade it to the newer version, but before doing it, check out the other improvements.

Apart from the improved gaming experience, the update brings scrolling improvements, networking improvements, and improved dialog when using an unsupported VPN, the default Android minimum size is now 220dp, a new toggle to check or save diagnostic data, graphics improvements, security updates, and more.

  • Some VPNs may not work with Advanced Networking. If you use a VPN and find Android apps do not have network connectivity, please disable Advanced Networking in the Windows Subsystem for Android Settings app
