Windows 11 May 2024 Update Refreshes Lock Screen Widgets and More

It’s that time of the month when Microsoft releases new software updates for all its products. This month’s Tuesday patch (KB5037771) brings several updates and enhancements to Windows 11.

Microsoft is pushing the gradual upgrade with the 22631.3593 build number to the users running on 23H2. If your PC is running on the 22H2 build, then you will receive the update ending with the 22621.3593 version number.

The newest Windows 11 software upgrade comes out with an enhanced look and animations for Widgets icons in the taskbar, a new user interface for lock screen widgets, more frequently used app suggestions in the Start Menu, and it also addresses numerous Settings responsiveness issues.

These are some key highlights of the Windows 11 May 2024 Tuesday patch. Moving to the list of improvements and fixes, then the update addresses the VPN connection failure issues and fixes an issue that might affect Virtual Secure Mode (VSM) scenarios.

Here’s the complete list of improvements and fixes.

    • This update addresses a known issue that might cause your VPN connection to fail. This occurs after you install the update dated April 9, 2024, or later.
  • Improvements
    • This update addresses an issue that might affect domain controllers (DC). NTLM authentication traffic might increase.
    • This update addresses an issue that might affect Virtual Secure Mode (VSM) scenarios. They might fail. These scenarios include VPN, Windows Hello, Credential Guard, and Key Guard.
    • This update addresses an issue that affects Server Message Block (SMB) clients. They fail to make SMB Multichannel connections. Because of this, file transfers are slow. This issue occurs after you install KB5036980 (April 23, 2024). In the Windows Event Log, Event ID 30826 appears for Microsoft-Windows-SMBClient/Connectivity.

Just like the previous Tuesday patches, it is a small upgrade, you can quickly install it on your PC. Whether your PC is on 23H2 build or 22H2 build, you can move to the Settings app, then head over to the Windows Update, click on Check for Updates in case it is not showing new updates to you, once you see the update, click on download and install.
