Last year, Apple made a significant change to the non-pro models of the iPhone with the iPhone 14, retain the previous year's processor.

This year, Apple released iPhone 15 and 15 Plus with last year’s A16 Bionic chip, whereas, the Pro models boasts more powerful A17 Pro SoC.
A new rumor hinting, Apple could go back to the original trend and expected to release iPhone 16 with A18 Bionic chipset.
All four iPhone 16 models are expected to equipped with A18-branded chips. This information comes through known Apple analyst Jeff Pu and shared by Macrumors.
In his latest note, Pu said, “we expect all iPhone 16 models to feature A18”, this new processor is expected to be based on 3nm N3E technology, will be made by TSMC.
These new processors will be based on N3E tech, which is less expensive, reduced power consumption, and enhanced performance compared to N3B.
Rumors suggest, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be equipped with A18 SoC.
