One of the features that iOS users lack is the freedom to install apps from anywhere on their iPhones. iPhone users only have the App Store option for now.

On Android, users can manually install apps from various sources, not just the Play Store. And this has been possible for a long time.

This process is popularly known as sideloading. It lets the users download the file from various source and install them on the device.

Finally, sideloading will soon be possible on iPhone and iPad, and is expected to debut with iOS 17 next year.

Mark Gurman shared in his latest Bloomberg Newsletter that iOS 17 will allow users to download apps hosted outside the App Store to their iPhones.

Apple will be making this change to comply with the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA).

This change alone will make iOS 17 a useful upgrade for many users and especially developers as they will not have to pay the 30% cut.
