Yesterday, Apple kicked off the release candidate of iOS 18.1 for iPhones. As expected, today, the company has released the watchOS 11.1 release candidate update to developers for testing purposes. The update addresses known issues and brings system-wide enhancements.

Apple is seeding the latest software upgrade on the watch with the 22R582 build version, which has a download size of around 240MB. If your watch is already running on the watchOS 11.1 beta, then you can freely upgrade it to the RC build. The public release is expected to be scheduled for next week.

Usually, Apple lists the changes coming with the upgrade in the release notes of the RC update. And the watchOS 11.1 release candidate’s changelog confirms no major features coming to the watch, instead, it addresses the issue causing problems writing breathing disturbance data to the Health app.

If your iPhone or iPad is running on the latest version of the iOS 18.1 release candidate, then you can easily sideload the watchOS 11.1 rc on your Watch.

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General > Software Update.
  3. Select Beta Updates and enable watchOS 11 Developer Beta or Public Beta option.
  4. Go back and download the release candidate of watchOS 11.1.
  5. That’s it.

Make sure that your Apple Watch is charged at least 50% and connected to a WiFi network. After installing the beta profile, open the Apple Watch app on your phone, head over to General > Software Update > Download and Install, then install the new software.

Now the watchOS 11.1 RC will download and transfer to your Apple Watch. And after the completion of the installation process, your watch will restart. Once all done, you can start using your Apple Watch.
