In November 2020, Sony shared a detailed roadmap about the Android 11 roll out. And last month, the company released stable build for the Xperia 1 Mark 2. Today, the company has started rolling out the Android 11 update for Sony Xperia 5 and Xperia 1 Mark 1 in the European market. The newer build packs a number of useful features, latest security patch, along with improvements. Here’s everything you need to know about Sony Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 Android 11 Update.
Back in 2019, the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 received the Android 10 update. Now the company has started pushing the second major update to both phones with 55.2.A.0.630 build number. As it is a major update, the latest build weighs around 1GB of download size. Talking about the changes, the Android 11 update overhauled the notification shade, added dark mode schedule option, new screenshot taking UI, redesigned power button menu, and much more.
Although, this time, Sony hasn’t published a proper changelog, but the update should come with a bunch of new features, which are mentioned in the above paragraph.
Other than that, the Android 11 update on Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 Mark I knocks up with Chat Bubbles, change in Notification panel & volume controls, improved performance, and many other features. Yes, it packs every essential feature of Android 11 along with a number of enhancements.
Sony Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 Mark 1 Android 11 Update
As I mentioned earlier, the update is seeding in the European region for both Xperia phones. Hopefully, the roll out will be expanded to the other regions in coming days. The latest update knocks up with December 2020 monthly security patch update.
In case you’ve not received the OTA notification on your Sony Xperia 1 Mark I and Xperia 5 Mark I, then I recommend you to check the updates manually in the system settings.
To manually check for updates simply go to Settings on your Xperia 1 and Xperia 5. And then go to System > Software Update. It will show the available update that you can download and install on your phone.
Hopefully soon the firmware will also be available on the company’s server. It means even if you don’t receive the OTA update on your phones, then you can manually update your device. First, download the Android 11 firmware from the Xperifirm tool for your Xperia device. Then you can manually flash on your phone. If you want to do so, then I recommend you take a backup prior to diving into the process. That’s it.
