In February, Samsung announced its newest S-series flagship smartphone – the Galaxy S22. The latest flagship smartphone comes with Android 12-based One UI 4.1 OS on board, the new software included a stack of new camera features. Two months back, Samsung shared a list of older Galaxy phones that would receive the new camera features available on the Galaxy S22 lineup. The wait is finally over, Samsung has started pushing the new software upgrade to the older Galaxy phones starting with the Galaxy S21 lineup. Samsung has officially confirmed the rollout of a new software upgrade, the company has shared the information on its community forum. And as per the details, the upgrade goes live for the Galaxy S21 lineup. At the time of writing, the update is rolling in a staged manner, currently available in South Korea and several European countries, wider rollout should follow in the coming days. It is a minor incremental upgrade for the last year’s S-series phones, weighing 904MB in size on the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
The new upgrade goes live on the Global variant and European variant with the G99xBXXU5CVDD build number, while the South Korean variant picks up the new software with the G99xNKSU3CVE1 build number. The upgrade is already available to many Galaxy S21 series users and here’s what’s new coming with the May software upgrade.

- The quality of pictures taken with social or camera apps downloaded from the application store has been improved.
- The ‘Auto framing’ feature is supported in video mode and some video call apps.
If you’re a proud Galaxy S21 owner, then you can check the new software inside the Software Updates section from the Settings app. Although the OTA has already reached many S21 line phones, just in case, you’ve not received the OTA yet, you can manually check for the new software.
The camera upgrade will also roll out to Galaxy Z Fold 3 with Expert RAW support and telephoto lens support in Pro mode. The upgrade will also be available for the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy S20 series, Note 20 series, Z Fold 2, S21 FE, Z Flip, S10 series, Note 10 series, Z Fold, and Note 10 Lite with night portrait feature, auto-framing feature, video call extension support, auto-framing effects, and other improvements.
