Redmi 9 receives Android 11 (based MIUI 12) Update

For the past few days, Xiaomi has been testing MIUI 12 based Android 11 Update on Redmi 9 in its mainland China. As soon as the testing is complete, the company kick-out the Android 11 Global Stable update for Redmi 9. The latest patch carries a number of new features, improvements, and fixes to the smartphone. Xiaomi is sowing the MIUI 12 based Android 11 build on Redmi 9 with V12.0.1.0.RJCMIXM software version. The device was announced back in June 2020 with Android 10 OS, later it received MIUI 12 update, now it’s a time for a major upgrade, the Android 11 update. As it is a major update, it weighs more than usual OTA patches. The best part about the roll out is, it’s a global stable update, it will be available to everyone over-the-air.

Talking about the changes, then for the time being, the changelog is not available to us. But we can expect the update cloud bring essential features of Android 11 alongside the updated monthly security patch and bugs fixes. I suggest you to connect your device to a stable Wi-Fi network for uninterrupted downloading.

Luckily, the recovery ROM is already available, so if you didn’t receive the OTA notification then you can update your smartphone manually to the newer update.

If youโ€™re using the Xiaomi Redmi 9 smartphone, then youโ€™ll soon receive the MIUI 12 based Android 11 update on your device. We can expect the update will be available to everyone within next few days. Usually, Xiaomi rolls out the new update in different batches, some of you may have to wait for more to get the taste of MIUI 12 based Android 11 update. But if you’re in a hurry then you can upgrade your smartphone manually using recovery ROM.

Before upgrading your smartphone, I recommend you to take a backup, before diving into the process and charge your device to at least 30%.

To sideload the recovery ROM package (Update file), you need to head over to the system settings > updates, then select the update package manually. Then, allow the prompts to install the build.

Once the installation process is completed, reboot your Redmi 9 before start using it. Thatโ€™s it.

  1. I downloaded the update via the OTA notification but when I wanted to install, it had disappeared. And when I tried checking for updates, it was showing “No new updates”.
    What could be the problem?

      I think it’s not completely downloaded, try to download it again, or you can also try sideloading recovery ROM.
