Sony revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro to the world via its technical presentation that was streamed on its official YouTube channel. The PS5 Pro will go on sale globally from November 7.
PlayStation 5 Pro – Technical Specs
The PS5 Pro is slated as an upgrade to the original PS5 console that was released back in 2020. So yes you will find improvements mainly in the GPU of the PS5 Pro. Sony has stated that the GPU on the PS5 Pro is 67 percent better than the previous PS5 GPU.
- Storage: 2TB internal SSD

PlayStation 5 Pro – AI Upscaling and Ray Tracing
You can now get better and improved image clarity on the PS5 Pro with the help of AI upscaling, which will add even more details to your games. Sony calls this tech the PSSR, which stands for PlayStation Super Spectral Resolution.
With a GPU that is larger than the existing one in the PS5, the PS5 Pro will now have advanced Ray Tracing. You can now experience more dynamic reflections and refractions of light in supported games. Thanks to the upgraded GPU, which has 28% faster memory and an overall 45% increase in terms of gaming performance, gamers will experience smoother gameplay. Overall, you will experience many games at a smooth 60 FPS.

With the GPU improvement for the PS5 Pro, several games will now come with an Enhanced tag that makes the best use of the PS5 Proโs hardware. Here is a list of some games that come with the Enhanced tag.

- Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
- Demonโs Soul
- Dragonโs Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7

PlayStation 5 Pro: Whatโs In the Box
When you purchase the PS5 Pro, you can choose only the digital version. There is no disc version anymore, Here is what you get in the box.
- Power cables
- PS5 Pro Console
- DualSense Wireless Controller x1
- HDMI cable
- AC power cable
- USB A to USB-C cable
You might have noticed that I didn’t mention the console stand. You see, Sony has played a silly game that a lot of popular smartphone brands are doing. Removing things from the box to only make you buy them separately. Yes, you will have to buy the console stand for your PS5 Pro separately, as it no longer comes in the box.
PlayStation 5 Pro – Pricing and Pre-Orders
If you’re interested in getting the PS5 Pro, you can visit the official PlayStation website. This is available only in a few regions, such as:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Germany
- Italy
- Luxembourg
- Netherlands
- Portugal
- Spain
- United Kingdom
If you reside in a country that is not mentioned in the above list, the pre-order for the PS5 Pro will begin at your local retailers from the 10th of October 2024.
Let’s now come to the pricing for the PlayStation 5 Pro. Sony has pulled the plug on going the overpriced route as it did back during the PlayStation 3. If you plan to buy the PlayStation 5 Pro the console will now cost you $700 and yes, there is no separate disc variant anymore. If you buy PS5 games on Disc, then you will have to shell around some more money to get a disc drive that is compatible with the PS5 Pro. So expect the price tag for the PS5 Pro to move towards the $800 mark.
If you want another DualSense PS5 wireless controller, well that’s not cheap either. Sony has increased the price tag for the controller to $80. So yeah, if you want a lot of things you will be looking at a $1,000 price tag after taxes depending on the region.
PlayStation 5 Pro – Who Should Get This Console?
If you are already rocking the PlayStation 5, just avoid getting the PlayStation 5 Pro. It’s not going to be that much of a difference, and you would be better off with your PS5 for a good number of years until the PS6 eventually comes to the surface.
However, if you’re someone who is still rocking the PS3 or even the PS4 Pro, you could go ahead and get the PS5 Pro. However, I would recommend picking the console up when there is some sort of festival offer or discount. Because at the current $700 price tag, you could easily get yourself a good Windows gaming laptop or even set aside a little more money and build yourself a custom gaming PC.
If you want the PS5 Pro, I would suggest getting the console when it comes at a $600 or below price tag. It simply makes no sense to spend $700 on a gaming console that has a limited number of exclusive titles to itself.
Closing Thoughts
This concludes everything you need to know about the brand-new Sony PlayStation 5 Pro gaming console. While it has upgraded graphics, the overall price tag, the removal of the console stand, and the elimination of a disc version simply make no sense. But, if you want to enjoy your games, go ahead and by all means get yourself the PS5 Pro.
And the public reaction to the launch of this overpriced console? Everyone is just laughing at what Sony has decided to cook with the PS5 Pro. Will the PS5 Pro see a decline or no interest in it? By the looks of it, it seems that the console will be putting itself in a tight spot to make it make sense to purchase a $700+ gaming console. What’s your take on the new PS5 Pro? Share them below.
