Last updated on September 26 with OxygenOS 14 release date and Features.
Google has already begun the final stages of Android 14 beta testing and will soon release the stable version of Android 14 to the public. As soon as Android 14 goes live, it will be available for all eligible Pixel devices.
But what about non-Pixel phones? Well, most OEMs have their own custom UI based on Android, so each OEM has different plans for the new update availability. Talking about OnePlus, the update that will be based on Android 14 is going to be OxygenOS 14.
If you want to know whether your OnePlus phone will receive Android 14 based OxygenOS 14 or not, and if yes, then when? Let’s start with the release date first.
OxygenOS 14 Release Date
Although OxygenOS 14 will be based on Android 14, it doesnโt mean that OxygenOS 14 will be available as soon as Google releases stable Android 14. Since it’s a custom OS, OnePlus has control over when they will complete the update testing and when they will release it to users.
OnePlus first released the Android 14 developer preview update for its latest flagship device a few months back by partnering with Google. However, the developer preview was part of OxygenOS 13 and not OxygenOS 14. Later the company released closed beta for some of its devices. The latest update is the OxygenOS 14 Open Beta 2 for OnePlus 11.
Now, coming to the stable release of OxygenOS 14, OnePlus has now confirmed that the stable OxygenOS 14 will release in Mid-Novemeber. OnePlus 11 5G will be the first device to get official OxygenOS 14 update. For other devices, the update could take months, which will continue until the first few months of the next year. OnePlus shared open beta timeline if you are interested.
OxygenOS 14 Supported Devices
As you are already aware, Android update eligibility is quite limited, as most models only support a couple of major Android updates, and even those updates are often delayed. So not every OnePlus phone will get the upcoming update, including some two-year-old devices. OxygenOS 14 Features
The main reason why we all are interested in major Android updates is because of the new features and improvements we get to experience. Obviously, without new features, a major update is nothing but a simple incremental update. Don’t worry, OxygenOS 14 is expected to include many new features that were finally revealed in the OxygenOS 14 announcement.
Trinity Engine
The company mention that its goal is to provide fast and smooth experience. With OxygenOS 14, OnePlus introduces performance platform called Trinity Engine. Its focus will be to reduce power consumption, better multi-tasking capability, and more enduring fast and smooth experience.
CPU Vitalization keeps the balance between enhanced performance and reduced power consumption. RAM Vitalization allow regularly used apps to run in the background for up to 72hours. This could result in 10% improvement in smoothness. ROM Vitalization helps to maintain the performance of the device even after the device is old.
Trinity Engine also include three cores related to graphic optimization: HyperRendering, HyperTouch, and HyperBoost. So there will be some boost in rendering, gaming, and other graphic activities.
Auto Pixelete 2.0
The update to Auto Pixelete feature with OxygenOS 14 can now auto pixelete more sensitive information like contact details and numbers like credit cards when sharing screenshots.
Aquamorphic Design 2.0
OnePlus introduced Aquamorphic design last year with OxygenOS 13. And with the new OOS 14 update, it is improved. The improvements will reflect in animations, color system, music, and more. Last year it brought improvement in opening and closing app animation, but in OOS 14, we can see improvements in other type of operations.
The color of the system will change according to the time, status of your device and what you are using on the device. This also applies to the lockscreen background color.
Fluid Cloud
If you are well aware of the Dynamic Island feature in iPhone 14 Pro models and iPhone 15 lineup, then this is nearly the same. It is part of Aquamorphic design, and provide information in much convenient way. It will show notifications in bubbles, capsules, and panels.
New Sounds
OOS 14 adds Aquamorphic based ringtones for calls, alarms, and notifications. There are total of nine new or retouched set of ringtones. And there are eleven global UI sound designs.
New carbon footprint AOD Theme
New AOD theme based on carbon footprint which OnePlus call Go Green AOD. It changes dynamically based on the user’s count. It also shows how many more steps for carbon reduction and environmental protection.
Smart Cutout
Just like the subject feature in iOS and One UI Smart Cut is a feature in OnePlus phones. It let users point and choose subject from photo or video and take actions like pasting it to a different page, sharing it in a message and more. It also works in case of multiple subjects in a photo or video.
No More Old Apps
In Android 14, the system will not let you install Apps that were built for older versions. Apps that are built for Android 5.1 Lollipop APIs and older will no longer work on Android 14 devices. This will directly improve the security as many old Apps with old APIs can be easily targeted by malware.
Allow specific Photos and Videos access
There is another good Android 14 feature that you should know about. Since it is a part of security it will be included in the OxygenOS 14 as well. You will now have the ability to specify images and videos when an app asks for Photos and Videos permission. You donโt need to Allow access to all media.
Some other expected features are:
- Create Emoji Wallpapers directly from the homescreen personalization
- Improved Security and Privacy
We will update this article when more information is available. So stay tuned for new updates.
