OpenAI has been painstakingly working on improving user experience with its AI-powered chatbot, dubbed, ChatGPT. After introducing the ChatGPT desktop app for Mac, OpenAI has finally launched a dedicated app for the Windows platform.

The app works the same way as it works on Mac, you can ask questions to the chatbot in a dedicated window. Not only this, but you can keep the app open alongside other apps in the background. ChatGPT for Windows is in its early testing phase and is limited to paid users for now.

Yesterday, OpenAI confirmed, “Today, ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu users can start testing an early version of the Windows desktop app.”

You can install the new ChatGPT desktop app on your Windows PC using this link. Talking about the system requirements, then you need a PC running on Windows 10 (x64 and arm64) version 17763.0 or higher.

Apart from the limited availability, there are a few more limitations users can phase in the early version of ChatGPT for the Windows app, the list includes:

  • Standard and Advanced Voice features
  • Authentication into Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive to set up Context Connectors
  • 3rd party authentication in the GPT Builder

You can launch the ChatGPT companion using ALT + Space shortcut to instantly ask anything, upload files, generate a new image, or start a new conversation. The companion chat remembers the last position it was in and automatically resets when you reset the app, additionally, you can reset the chat by selecting the New chat option.

If you want to continue the chat or if closed accidentally, you can open the conversation in the Main Window. One thing to keep in mind is, that the companion shortcut will not work if already opened.
