OnePlus 6/6T OxygenOS 11 (Android 11) update seems distant

OnePlus has been quite slow when it comes to rolling out major Android updates. Looking at how the OnePlus 7 Series has recently picked up the update to OxygenOS 11, the OnePlus 6 series might have to wait a bit longer.

The OnePlus 6 was launched in May of 2018 with Android 8.1 out of the box, while the OnePlus 6T was launched in November of 2019 with Android 9 out of the box. While OnePlus is known for providing three years of Android updates to its devices, the OnePlus 6 will be receiving its last major update. On the other hand, the OnePlus 6T is entitled to receive two more major updates.

Here’s what we know about the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T Android 11 Update release date.

What’s new in the Oxygen OS 11 Update?

Oxygen OS is based on Android 11 which brings in a lot of goodies. OxygenOS 11 now gets you improved one-hand mode, newer Always On Display screens paired with Insight AOD, and a better immersive UI experience as well. Native Android 11 features such as Device Controls, Media Controls, Chat Bubbles, and improved privacy alongside security.

When will OnePlus 6/6T get Android 11 Update

Yes, both devices are expected to be receiving the Android 11 update. Unfortunately, there is no ETA as to when these devices are expected to start beta testing of Android 11. While this will be the last major update for the OnePlus 6, we can expect the OnePlus 6T to go on for another year with its final update to Android 12.

Taking a look back at previous release cycles like how the OnePlus 5/5T picked up the stable Android 10 update in May last year but halted it due to numerous bugs that plagued the system. It could be a reason why there’s no official news about what and when to expect the update to OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 6 series.

However, things seem to be a bit different when it comes to OnePlus’ home country. A blog post on the official OnePlus Chinese forum indicates that the public beta version of OxygenOS 11 might commence around the end of August for the OnePlus 6 series.

Looking at how the OnePlus 6 lineup is being treated with delayed updates, one could expect OxygenOS 11 public betas to be rolling out probably somewhere between May and November. While users of the OnePlus 6 will be losing support soon, nothing can be said about the OnePlus 6T. Given that the OnePlus 6T only picked up one of the three major updates, we and as well as its users hope to see the rays of Android 12 shine down upon the device.

We will be continuously updating this article as and when we get any updates about the OnePlus 6 series.
