Better Late Than Never: Motorola has started rolling out the Android 14 update for Razr 40 series aka Razr 2023 series. While the American tech giant has done an acceptable job in releasing the Android 14 update to its devices across different ranges, they were unable to release the upgrade for their premium foldables on time.
Android 14 was officially released to the public by Google on October 4, 2023. It took Motorola nine months to roll out the upgrade for its high-end smartphones. Yes, the upgrade is finally available for the Moto Razr (2023) in the US. The company has officially confirmed the availability of the upgrade by listing the features on the support page of the Razr 40 Ultra.
A Reddit user, Independent_Goose_41, who owns the Razr 2023, has received the anticipated system upgrade. Although he did not provide the software version or update size details, he shared a screenshot of the About page, revealing that the upgrade is available for retail models in North America.
The upgrade is in its early rollout phase and is available to select users in the United States, with a broader rollout to follow soon. It will also be released for the global variants, Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra, in Europe and India.
July 4 – Available for Razr+ 2023
Earlier, the update was only limited to the vanilla Razr (2023). Now it is also available for Razr+ (2023), seeding with the software version number – U3TZ34.2-65-3, and weighs around 2.88GB in download size.

Here’s the complete list of changes coming with the Android 14 update to Moto Razr 40 series.
- More control over personal data
- Now you can see and better control who has access to your personal data, like photos, location, and health information.
- Grant partial access to images and videos:
- When apps request access to your media, you can now grant access to specific images and videos in your library, instead of granting access to all media of that type.
- See when apps want to share your location with a 3rd party:
- If an app wants to share your location information with 3rd parties, the location permission screen will now highlight this information so that you can deny permission as needed.
- If any apps you previously granted location permissions change their data sharing practices and start sharing data with 3rd parties, you will receive a notification so you can deny permissions if needed.
- Get notified if someone is tracking you:
- You can now get notified automatically if your phone determines that an unknown tracker is moving with you. Unknown tracker alerts work with widely used Bluetooth trackers, including Apple AirTags and all trackers compatible with the Find My Device network.
- Control your health data in a single place:
- Health Connect is a health and fitness repository. Use it to store all of your health data (activity, body measurement, nutrition, sleep, vitals) on your phone. Then, control which data you want to share with your favorite fitness apps.
- Flash Notifications:
- You can now set your phone to flash when you have incoming notifications. You can choose between the camera light, your screen light, or both. Flash notifications will respect your settings and stay dark for Do Not Disturb.
- Improved Magnification:
- Now you can pinch to zoom in and out from 100%. You can also:
- Change the magnifier size (how much of the screen to magnify)
- Set magnification to stay on when you switch apps, instead of turning off
If you reside in the US and own Moto Razr 2023, then you can check the new update by navigating to Settings > System updates > Check for updates.
It will also be available to the unlocked models very soon. If the update is not yet visible on your device, please wait for a few days.
Make sure to take a backup before updating your phone. Also, charge your phone to at least 50% before updating the device.
