Xiaomi has finally released its latest MIUI version ‘MIUI 14’. The launch date was earlier fixed for December 2, but then got delayed. And finally, after about two weeks it is available in China with the Xiaomi 13 series. MIUI 14 comes with several visual changes, new features, performance improvements, and more. If you are a Xiaomi user, check out MIUI 14 supported phones, features, and other details.

Android 13 was released in August and many OEMs have already started making it available for their devices. But Xiaomi users had to wait a long time and they might have to wait for next year as MIUI 14 will start rolling out in 2023. MIUI 14 is Xiaomi’s take on Android 13 but it does not come with stock features like Material You. But it comes with some other cool features. It also brings new wallpapers that you can get here.

MIUI 14 Features

Letโ€™s start with everything new in MIUI 14. Because why not, new features are the reason why people wait for major updates. And MIUI 14 comes with many features that level up the MIUI customization. MIUI 14 roadmap is available next.

miui 14 features

UI Changes

The latest MIUI 14 comes with some visual changes, especially in the homescreen. It brings super icons and customizable widgets. Users can set long and large icons on the homescreen. The new UI also supports large folders in which users can place more icons.

Another cool feature for homescreen is Interactive animated pet and plant widgets to make the homescreen more lively. You can set available pets or plant widgets on the homescreen and interact with them.

Uninstall More system apps

MIUI is known for including too many apps by default and most of them can not be uninstalled. But with MIUI 14, Xiaomi has reduced the number of unremovable system apps to 8. This means apart from 8 specific apps, you would be able to uninstall other apps. This is to remove bloatware and increase available space.

Small Size

MIUI 14 is lighter than previous MIUI versions. And this will directly impact the device performance while giving more free space to users. The total size of the MIUI 14 firmware is around 13GB.

MIUI 14 can also compress low frequency apps to free space and reduce the usage of system resources. Low frequency means apps that users open rarely. The new update also saves space by only keeping one copy of duplicate files.

Increased Performance

This is a common improvement that we see on almost all the OS and custom UI. And with every new update, the performance keeps getting better. But this time, it is said to be a significant improvement because of the small size and fewer apps.

The MIUI 14 comes with a new MIUI photon engine giving the opportunity to developers for developing power-efficient and high-performance apps.

Copy text from Images

This is one of the features every OEM is adopting to its custom OS. Xiaomi also brings the iPhoneโ€™s OCR like function with MIUI 14. So with MIUI 14, users will be able to copy text directly from images. This means they donโ€™t have to rely on Google Lens to copy text from images.

Mi AI Voice Assistant

Xiaomiโ€™s default voice assistant can be used for more tasks now. It can be your translator, scanner, call assistant, and more. It can also be used to detect plant species, important documents, and more. The AI assistant also plays role in filtering spam calls.

Privacy and Security

Xiaomi claims that in the new MIUI 14, more than 30 scenes now support end to end privacy without storing the data in the cloud and all actions will be performed locally on the device.

Other features of MIUI 14 include new notification management, notification permission, easily connecting to Xiaomiโ€™s ecosystem products, family services like creating a group of 8 members, and more.

MIUI 14 Eligible Phones

Now all the features we mentioned above will be of no use if the device is not eligible for the update. So I am sure you would like to know what phones are eligible for MIUI 14. Fortunately, Xiaomi has officially revealed the MIUI 14 Roadmap that you will find below. Well, its for China but the same eligibility may be followed globally. Hereโ€™s the list.

miui 14 roadmap

As of now only the list of first batch devices is available in the MIUI 14 roadmap. MIUI 14 rollout for the first batch will start in January 2023. The second and further batch will be announced later.

Xiaomi 13 already launched with the latest MIUI 14 so it’s not on the list. Xiaomi 12 series will be the first Xiaomi phone series that will get MIUI 14 in 2023.

Some of these phones are available outside china with different names. So those phones are likely to get update as well.

MIUI 14 Global Availability

The MIUI 14 seems a pretty good upgrade over the last MIUI version. It comes with many new features and performance improvements. Unfortunately, some features may not make it to the global build. But it is just from early reports so it can not be confirmed until it’s released globally.

The Global launch is expected in January 2023, so if you are a Xiaomi user you have to wait for more to experience Android 13 and MIUI 14. Yes, Xiaomi is already late and it will be among the worst update service if they take too much even next year.

Let us know if you are waiting for MIUI 14 rollout, or have given up on the update. Well it’s an obvious question as users need to wait too much even if they own a flagship phone.
