Just a few days back, Microsoft showed off the Surface Duo lineup running on Android 12L at its annual Surface launch event. And today, the firm has started rolling out the new software update to both Surface Duo devices. Yes, if you own the Surface Duo or Surface Duo 2, then you can now upgrade your device from Android 11 to Android 12L. The new software is bundled with a bunch of new features and changes, read along to know all details about the Microsoft Surface Duo and Duo 2 Android 12L update.
Microsoft is pushing the new software with the 2022.815.152 version number on the OG Surface Duo, whereas, the Surface Duo 2 picks up the new build with the 2022.815.179 version number. Just like the Windows updates, Microsoft has officially confirmed information about the major software upgrade for the Surface devices.
Currently, the new software is available for unlocked Surface Duo in North America and Europe, while if you own the carrier-locked unlocked AT&T Surface Duo, then you will need to wait for a few more days to get the taste of the new update. If you own the Surface Duo 2, then you can upgrade your device right away.
In terms of changes, the Android 12L brings a major overhaul to the Surface Duo lineup, including the Android 12L’s new dynamic theming engine with color palette support, new fluent UI design in the quick panel, updated widgets, Windows-inspired wallpapers, multitasking features, and more. The update brings a feature called Pen Menu, if you own the Surface Slim Pen 2, then you can now press the button and quickly choose an action you want to perform.
Other than that, the update brings new accessibility tools, privacy features, easier data transfer support between devices, battery usage optimizations, and more. The update will bump up the monthly security patch version to October 2022. As this is a major software release, it require a huge chunk of data for downloading, so make sure you have enough amount of Internet data and space on your device.
If you own the Surface Duo or Surface Duo 2 and want to update it to Android 12L, then head over to Settings > Software Update, then check for the new updates, if available you can select the download option. That’s it.
