LG is shutting down its unlock bootloader service on December 31. This means you will no longer be able to unlock the bootloader of your LG phone officially. Unlocking Bootloader allows users to try different custom ROMs, custom Recoveries, and even let you root the phone. LG was kind enough to offer an official unlock bootloader service which many smartphone brands do not.
There are many reasons to try custom ROMs or root and unlock bootloader of LG phones. Such as old phones from LG are not eligible for the latest updates. And to try out features and performance from the latest updates, you can install custom ROMs on your LG phone. To flash custom ROMs or any other advanced customization or changes on your LG phone, you need to first unlock the bootloader.

To unlock bootloader of LG phones, users need to get the unlock key from the LG mobile developer site. And from December 31, the service will be terminated. If you have an old LG phone in which you want to try custom ROMs or want to root it, you can use the unlock bootloader service before its termination date. There are also some unofficial methods that let you unlock the bootloader of LG phones.
