Google’s July 2023 Update is rolling out for Pixel Phones

The monthly update has arrived for Pixel phones running Android 13, including the newly added Pixel Fold. Unlike the previous month’s update, this latest release focuses on only a couple of improvements and bug fixes. Here’s everything you need to know about the Google Pixel July 2023 Update.

Google releases an update every month for its Pixel devices aiming to improve security and enhance the user experience. If you own a Pixel phone, you are likely familiar with these regular updates.

The latest July 2023 update is available for Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5a, Pixel 5a (5G), Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel Fold. The monthly update is available globally with build number TQ3A.230705.001. However, the build number for other regions could be different.

Talking about What’s New and Changes, there is not much to talk about. You can check the official changelog below.

Battery & Charging

  • General improvements for charging, battery usage or thermal performance in certain conditions [Pixel Tablet]

User Interface

  • Fix for issue occasionally causing lock screen notification text to display behind unlock UI elements [Pixel Tablet]

These changes are exclusive to Pixel Tablet. Apart from the listed changes the update addresses a bunch of security vulnerabilities. The security patch level is July 2023.

The July 2023 update is currently rolling out over the air which can take some time for covering all eligible devices. So it is possible you may have received the update on your Pixel device or not. To manually check for the update go to Settings > System > System update.

You can also manually install the July update on your Google Pixel phone by sideloading the update. The factory images and OTA files of the September update are already available. But make sure to take a backup before sideloading the new software.
