Google introduced Photomoji on its messaging app back in late 2023. With this feature, you can express your emotions using your own pictures. Today, you will learn what Photomoji is and how to use Photomoji in Google Messages app.
With Android phones, there are many Google apps that come pre-installed on them. One of them is the Google Messages app, which comes as the default messaging app and is loaded with many good features and Google releases new features regularly with the new updates. One of them is Photomoji. Read on to learn the steps to create and use the feature on the messaging app.
What is Photomoji in Google Messages?
As the name suggests, the feature allows users to create emoji based on their own images, which they send as a text message or as a reaction to a received message. The feature is available only in RCS (Rich Communication Services) chats right now.
You just need to scroll through your photo collection and select the one you want to use. It will automatically recognize the subject and remove everything else from the chosen photo to create an emoji, which you can then send.
Once you send it, it will be stored in the Photomoji section, where you can use it again as a reaction or sticker.

While the OS requirement to use the feature is Android 8.0 or above, the feature might not be available to you since it’s still in the rollout stage and only phones with Android 14 have access to the feature. Still, you can check if it’s available to you or not and use it by following these simple steps:
Step 1: First of all, update the Google Messages app if there is an update available.
Step 2: Open the app, then open a conversation.
Step 3: Click on the message box and tap on the emoji icon. If you see the Photomoji section, it means the feature is available.
Step 4: To create a Photomoji, tap Create.
Step 5: Choose a photo from the gallery. Google Messages will automatically identify the subject and create a border. If there are multiple images in the image, tap the one you want to send.
Step 6: Finally, click on the Send button.
As soon as you send it, the Photomoji will also get stored in the Photomoji section.
