How to use Apple’s Strong Password Generator [Guide]

In this article, you can check how to use Apple’s strong password generator. Apple devices have a feature that is designed to make it easier for iPhone and iPad users to generate strong, secure, and unique passwords to log into different apps and websites.

This works when you create an account or sign up on websites or apps. When you sign up on websites and apps, you can let your iPhone generate strong passwords for your accounts.

This feature from Apple ensures that if you’re prompted by a website or app to make up a password, Apple will automatically offer to generate a strong and secure password for you.

This feature also keeps checking for weak passwords stored in your iCloud Keychain and flags weak passwords and tells you if a password has been reused for different account login credentials. This also flags the passwords that have been appeared in a data leak.

These passwords are stored in your iCloud Keychain and when prompted, your iPhone fills them in for you automatically, so you don’t have to remember each of them.

In this article we will show you how to use it:

How to create a strong password using AutoFill Password

  1. Launch the Safari app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 12 or later.
  2. Navigate to any website that you need to sign up for.
  3. Enter a Username or Email ID in the respective field.
  4. Now, tap on the Password field.
  5. If the website is supported, you’ll see the Passwords option in the top bar of Apple Keyboard.
  6. It will open AutoFill Password page from Settings, where you can add new password for the website you want, by entering the login credentials.
  7. Authenticate yourself with Face ID or Touch ID.
  8. Tap on Add New Password.

Automatically fill Saved Password

As mentioned above, once your password is saved in the iCloud keychain, your iPhone will prompt you to let it enter the password automatically for you.

To view your passwords that are saved in your iCloud Keychain, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Scroll down till you see Passwords.
  3. Tap on Passwords.
  4. Authenticate yourself with Face ID or Touch ID or your iPhone’s passcode.
  5. You will now see all the passwords stores in your iCloud Keychain for the supported apps and websites.

Pro Tip: Whenever you want to see one of your passwords, you can ask Siri to show it to you. For example, you can say: “Siri, show me my Facebook password.” or “Siri, show me my passwords.” Siri will then open up your iCloud Keychain with the password entries as per your request, but will only reveal the passwords after you authenticate your identity with Face ID or Touch ID or your iPhone’s passcode.

Identify Reused Passwords

This feature audits the passwords stored in the keychain and identifies if they have been reused or appeared in a data leak and then suggests you to change these passwords on the website.

To identify which passwords have been reused or leaked, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Scroll down till you see Passwords.
  3. Tap on Passwords.
  4. You will now see a tab that says “Security Recommendations“.
  5. Tap on the Security Recommendations tab.
  6. You will now see which passwords have been reused or leaked.
  7. You can tap on the password and change it on their respective websites.

Prevent your iPhone from entering passwords automatically

You can restrict your iPhone from entering any saved password automatically, to do this:

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Scroll down till you see Passwords.
  3. Tap on Passwords.
  4. Turn off the toggle against the Autofill Passwords setting to block your iPhone from entering the saved passwords automatically.
