How To Enable Developer Options on Android Phones

Android phones come with a lot of hidden features that are only known to users who are aware of USB debugging, OEM unlocking and more. Many of you may have heard about the developer option. This option is available in every Android smartphone but by default, it’s not visible in Settings. So in this post, you will learn how to enable Developer Options and how to use it on Android devices.

Developer Options contains many useful features that come in play when you are trying to unlock bootloader or trying to use advanced features. Good point is that you can easily enable developer options without making any system changes. The developer options let you control your device in a way that you never expected, it also includes hardware performance. So let’s check out the method to enable/unlock developer options.

How To Enable Developer Option

Before you move to the process there is one more thing that you should know that the process can be different for phones from different companies.

1) First open Settings on your phone.

2) Then go to About Phone option, in some phones it can be Settings > System.                                                                                                

3) Now tap 7 times on Build Number (or CustomUI number (eg. MIUI number) in some phones) until it says ‘you are now a Developer’. 

4) You can find Developer options in the Advanced settings/Additional settings.

5) Now you can use your smartphone advanced settings such as debugging, OEM unlocking, animation speed etc.

How To Use Developer Options

Important Developer options:-

OEM Unlocking: This feature allows you to modify your Bootloader locking status. If you want to unlocked select this option. You can check the Bootloader status from the Unlock status option.

USB Debugging: This feature connects your Android phone with a computer containing Android SDK by connecting with USB. USB Debugging also helps a lot when you are flashing a ROM on your phones.

Drawing: This section on the developer option allows you to change the phone Animation speed, duration. Also, it provides an option to create a secondary display. Basically, it gives full control of display to the user.

Hardware Accelerated Rendering: Through this section of Developer you can change the default GPU controls of the phone. If you have an issue with a game like you are only seeing objects in black you can solve from Disable HW overlays. 
Networking: From this section, the user can change system settings of WiFi, carrier, or any wireless controls. The user can enable mobile data and WiFi simultaneously for faster network switching.

Apps: This section let the user control over apps on the device such as user can set Background process limit and Memory optimization priority.

Monitoring: It will let the user change on display that carries everywhere such as show CPU usage and GPU rendering option.

In case if you want to disable developer options then it is easier than enabling it.

How to Disable Developer Options

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Then go to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options.
  3. In developer options, toggle the option on top.
  4. Now when you go back the developer options will be disabled.
