How to Turn On or Off Filmmaker Mode on LG TV

Filmmaker mode is exclusive to some TV brands, including some premium segment LG TVs. We tend to play around with picture settings to enhance the viewing experience in movies and TV shows.

But Filmmaker Mode differs from these inbuilt picture modes on your LG TV. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’ll be surprised by what you miss, especially if you prefer to view the content unaltered, as the creators captured and edited it.

In this post, we’ll show how to turn on or off Filmmaker Mode on LG TV and answer related questions about the feature.

Enable or Disable Filmmaker Mode on LG TV

In 2021, LG added a new change in Filmmaker mode to auto-detect supported content and suggested enabling the Filmmaker mode. It only works with some Amazon Prime shows and movies; you’ll see a popup to enable the mode.

If you confirm this, your LG TV will enable the feature. This pop-up feature works with 4K and 8K UHD LG TV models running webOS 5.0, webOS 6.0, and later.

You can manually enable Filmmaker mode on your LG TV for other content. Here’s how:

Step 1: Press the Settings button on your LG TV remote. Select the All settings option.

Step 2: Go to Picture > Advanced Settings.

Step 3: Enable the FILMMAKER MODE Auto Start option.

Step 4: Close the Settings and run Amazon Prime or any other streaming service that supports such content.

If you find the Filmmaker Mode unexciting, reopen the Advanced settings menu and turn off the FILMMAKER MODE Auto Start option. You can enable and disable the Filmmaker Mode from the same settings, you only need to use the toggle.

Should You Use Filmmaker Mode?

Filmmaker Mode doesn’t do any post-processing on the media. The aspect ratio, frame rates, and other image enhancement techniques stay unchanged. You don’t need to spend time calibrating the TV for each movie or show.

Moreover, you don’t need to play with multiple picture modes to check which works well for a particular media. That said, it has been only a few years since the Filmmaker Mode existed on high-end TVs, which means the target audience is still small. The UHD alliance assures that Filmmaker Mode can be activated via a firmware update for TVs that don’t have the feature yet.

Why Does My LG TV Automatically Go to Filmmaker Mode?

After a recent update, LG TV will ask you to enable the Filmmaker Mode when it detects any content that supports it. Once enabled, it stays on until you manually disable it using the Advanced Settings. So follow the steps mentioned above to disable the Filmmaker Mode when its not required.

Why Is LG Filmmaker Mode So Dark?

LG Filmmaker Mode doesn’t intentionally make the content dark or bright. It presents it as the makers released it, which could be deliberately dark or bright. For example, the recent Batman movie is dark, and OLED displays true blacks, so the film feels darker than you usually see.

Wrapping Up

For cinema buffs, Filmmaker Mode is a boon on OLED TVs. You get the most accurate colors, aspect ratio, and frames, which vary with each movie and show. It is a highly personalized experience, and we suggest you try it once if your LG or other TV brand supports it.
