Since its official launch on Thursday, the 6th of July, Mark Zuckerberg’s Twitter competitor, Threads, has received a positive response. So far the platform has more than 30 million users and it’s expected to quickly reach a billion users quite quickly. With an influx of new Threads users, it is only sensible for a lot of users to know how they can post anything on Threads.
What a lot of us have also noticed is that there are entirely newcomers to Threads – Meaning they are users who might have never created a Twitter account and hence will not be knowing how to use the new platform. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of using Threads, including how to create posts, reply to posts, and repost threads.
Let’s dive in and get started.
How to Post Threads on Threads
Threads is a text-based platform that allows you to additionally add images and videos to your posts. It is similar to that of Twitter. While you have the option to share media, it is much better looked at as a platform where you can post quick and easy text updates. If you haven’t joined Threads, it’s best you do now. Check out our guide on what Threads is and how you can join the platform.
You can easily post a thread using the Threads Android and iOS app available for free. Once you have got the app and signed in, you can follow these steps to post your first Thread on the Threads platform.
- Launch the Threads app on your Android or iOS device.
- Now, at the top of the app, tap on the third tab which represents the edit icon.
- This will now bring you to a screen where you can easily type in your text update right away.
- If you want to add an image or a video, you can simply tap on the attachment icon, grant permission, and then simply select the image or video of your choice.
- You can also tap on add a thread to add more threads to your existing thread post.
- Once you have added whatever you want, you can simply tap on the Post button that you can see at the bottom right corner of the app.
Additional Points
Here are some of the things you need to know when you post on Threads
- Your text updates can contain a maximum of 500 characters. Nothing more than 500 characters
- Once you post a thread, you will not be able to edit your thread. You can choose to only delete it.
- Videos can be uploaded, but the duration of the video can be at a maximum length of 5 minutes and not more.
- If you delete your Thread, replies to your Thread will still be visible.
- You can choose who can view your threads before you post them.
- You can choose to hide the likes count – something that you can easily do on Instagram
How to Repost a Thread on Threads
Resharing a thread is similar to the re-tweeting feature that you see on Twitter. Here is how you can repost a Thread.
- First off, go to the Thread that you wish to share.
- Now, below the Thread, you will see a Repost icon on the right side of the comment icon.
- Tapping on the Reshare icon will give you two options.
- You can choose Repost to directly repost the Thread right away. The reposted thread will be visible to all your followers on your profile.
- You can also choose the Quote option. This lets you add your own text to the post you are resharing.
- The Reporting feature here works exactly like Twitter’s Retweet and Quote Retweet functionality.
How to Delete a Thread
If your thread has some spelling mistakes or typos and you plan to make changes to them, you simply will not be able to do so. In this case, the only sensible option is to delete your thread and then post a new one. Here are the steps to delete your Thread.
- Launch the app and tap on the last tap that has the profile icon.
- You will now see your profile page and the list of all your threads.
- Select the post that you want to delete.
- Tap on the three horizontal dots that you see at the top of the post.
- You can see a menu show up at the bottom of the screen.
