The Apple Watch is a great device to use alongside your iPhone if you are or want to get further deep into the Apple Ecosystem. It provides seamless integration between your Apple devices. With recent updates, you can even unlock your iPhone with your Apple Watch without having to remove your mask, this is a great option during these hard times. But, let’s put all that aside, and in this article, we will show you how to lock, unlock, or restart your Apple Watch.
How to Lock Apple Watch
By default, your Apple Watch locks automatically with the help of wrist detection. This locks your Apple Watch automatically when the Apple Watch detects that you are not wearing it.
You can turn this setting off manually. To change this setting, do the following:
Turn off Wrist Detection
- Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
- Tap on Passcode.
- Scroll down till you see Wrist Detection.
- Turn off Wrist Detection by pressing on the slider against it.
- Enter the passcode when prompted.
Note: Turning off Wrist Detection affects the following Apple Watch features:
- You will be prompted to enter the passcode on your Apple Watch whenever you use Apple Pay on your Apple Watch.
- Some Activity measurements become unavailable.
- Heart Rate Tracking is turned off.
- Notifications are turned off.
- Apple Watch will no longer automatically lock or unlock.
- Apple Watch will not automatically make an emergency call when a fall is detected.
Locking Apple Watch Manually
- Swipe up from the bottom of your Apple Watch screen to bring up the control center.
- Tap on the Lock icon.
Note: to manually lock your Apple Watch, Wrist Detection must be turned off.
You must enter your passcode the next time you want to unlock your Apple Watch.
How to unlock Apple Watch
You can unlock your Apple Watch manually, by entering your passcode:
- Wake your Apple Watch by raising your wrist, enter the passcode on your Apple Watch.
- Tap OK.
Or, you can set it to unlock automatically when you unlock your iPhone. To do this, follow along:
Unlock with iPhone
- Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
- Tap on Passcode.
- Enable Unlock with iPhone.
You can also do this from your iPhone:
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
- Tap on Passcode.
- Enable Unlock with iPhone.
Note: Your iPhone must be within the normal bluetooth range (i.e. 10 meters) of your Apple Watch to unlock it. If bluetooth is off, you must enter the passcode manually on your Apple Watch to unlock it.
How to restart Apple Watch
To restart your Apple Watch, do the following:
Turn off your Apple Watch
Turning off your Apple Watch is pretty easy if you’re familiar with iPhones and other Apple Devices. To turn off your Apple Watch:
- Press and Hold the Side button on your Apple Watch until a menu appears.
- Drag the Power Off slider to the right.
Turn on your Apple Watch
Turning on your Apple Watch is pretty easy as well. To turn on your Apple Watch:
- Press and Hold the Side Button on your Apple Watch until the Apple logo appears.
- Once you see the Apple Logo, leave the side button.
- Enter your passcode when your Apple Watch is turned on.
- Voila, you are now entered into your Apple Watch.
Note: You cannot restart your Apple Watch when it is charging.
