Google is actively testing the next version of Android, Android 14. The upcoming major Android release is interesting due to its new features and improvements. One of the noteworthy features of Android 14 is Emoji Wallpapers, which allow users to create unlimited wallpapers using various emojis and their variants. Well, it’s a Pixel-exclusive feature and is already available on some Pixel phones through the latest Pixel Feature Drop update.
Google also showcased the Emoji Wallpaper feature at the recent Google I/O event held on May 10. This feature allows you to create wallpapers that match your mood. However, since it is a feature exclusive to Pixel, you can experience it if you have an eligible Pixel phone.
But there is an alternate method that you can follow to get the Emoji Wallpapers feature on any Android phone. Yes, you can enjoy this feature on other versions of Android using an unofficial method. So, if you want to try the new Emoji Wallpaper on your Android device, this guide is for you.
As you may know, the Emoji Wallpaper feature is already included in the Android 14 beta. Due to this, many custom developers have had the opportunity to extract the app from the firmware. This dedicated app allows for Emoji Wallpaper personalization, making it possible to enjoy the feature on any Android device before its public release.
Download APKs
If you are not using a Pixel phone, you will need the extracted APKs. These files have been extracted from one of the Android 14 beta builds and they work fine on Android 13. It’s important to note that sideloading apps can be risky, so please proceed with the alternate method at your own risk.
You can download two required APKs from the link given below.
Install Required Apps
After downloading both APKs, copy them to your phone’s storage. Open the file manager on your phone and locate the Emoji Wallpaper pre-built APK. Tap on it to initiate the installation process. If your device prompts you to allow installation from the file manager, grant the necessary permission.
After installing the first app, install the Wallpaper 12 apk which is the Wallpaper app that let you use this feature.
Customize your Emoji Wallpaper
Now comes the fun part. Open the Wallpapers app that you have installed. Navigate through the app and scroll down until you find the Live Wallpapers section. Tap on it to open the Live Wallpapers options. Within the Live Wallpapers section, you will find the Emoji Wallpaper category. Tap on it to explore the available options.
Next, tap on the gear icon located at the top right corner. This will open the Emoji Wallpaper personalization page, where you will find various options similar to Android 14. From here, you can choose your preferred set of Emojis, Emoji patterns, Emoji size, and even the background color. If you’re feeling indecisive or creative, you can simply tap the “Randomize” button to have a random set of emojis chosen for you.
Once you have created desired pattern, tap the Done button on top. And then tap Set Wallpaper and choose where you want to apply your new Emoji Wallpaper.
I tested the feature on my Samsung phone running One UI 5, which is based on Android 13 and found that the feature works. However, there are some bugs to be aware of. For example, when customizing the wallpaper, the changes may not be immediately visible on the screen. Instead, you will need to apply the wallpaper to the homescreen or lockscreen to see the updated changes. I had to customize the wallpaper without being able to preview how it would look. Please note that the presence of bugs can vary depending on the device you own.
What’s your view on this Pixel feature? Is it useful or just a trash addition? Also, let us know if you want a specific guide for any other feature.
