For a while, the Windows Camera app has just been very basic. Of course, you can adjust the privacy settings and choose what apps can access the camera on your Windows PC. Well, Microsoft has been improving many features of the Windows 11 OS, and the default/stock camera app for Windows 11 is also being improved.
The Camera app for those who are on the Dev channel for Windows 11 will soon be able to use other cameras and also be able to adjust the media type. So, if you’re on the Dev channel and want to enable these features, you’ve come to the right place.
Enable New Camera Settings For Windows 11
Just like these camera settings, many other features are first available for users on the Windows Insider program. But, just because these features are present here, it doesn’t mean that the feature will be rolled out in stable versions of Windows 11. However, if you like to try to explore such things, you will need to get hold of the ViveTool.
Download the ViveTool
The simplest way to enable these features on the Canary or Dev builds of Windows 11 is by using the ViveTool. This is a free-to-use open-source tool that lets you enable or even disable unreleased features for Windows 11. You can download the ViveTool by heading over to this GitHub page.
Once you have downloaded the ViveTool zip file, make sure to extract it and place the contents in a folder location that you can easily remember.
Enable Additional Camera Settings
Now that you have the ViveTool on your Windows PC, it’s time to enable the Additional Camera options. Here is what you need to do.
- Open up Command Prompt and make sure to run it as an Administrator.
- With Command Prompt open, type in cd followed by the address path of the ViveTool folder.
- With the path changed, you can now enable or disable features.
- For the Additional Camera features, type in vivetool /enable /id:49575624

- vivetool /enable /id:50292326
- vivetool /enable /id:48433719
- Once the commands have been run, simply restart your Windows 11 PC.
- With the system reboot complete, launch the Settings app and click on Bluetooth and Devices, followed by Camera.
- Click on the Connected Camera and you should see a new Advanced Camera option.
- When you click on Edit, you will have options to enable the camera for multiple apps and also choose to enable the Basic Camera.
