Microsoft is testing new things with Windows 10’s start menu and taskbar. With latest update, Taskbar on Windows 10 gets a new widget dubbed as news and interests. The News and Interests widget is available in the right side of the taskbar, it shows weather, trending news, sports, stocks, and more.

If you’ve updated Windows 10 to version 1909 then the news and interests widget is enabled by default. In case you want to disable it on your PC, then here’s how to disable News and Interests widget on Windows 10.

Microsoft pushed the new widget with a number of customization options. The widget appears in the form of a weather icon with temperature and weather condition. The customization allows people to change appearance of icon to Icon only. Apart from that, users can also disable news and interests widget on Windows 10.

Turn off News and Interests Widget on Windows 10

If you like the clean and minimal looking taskbar then you may like disabling news and interests widget on your desktop. The process of disabling new widget is easy and the best part is, there’s no need to mess into CMD stuff, you can easily turn off or disable taskbar widgets on your Windows 10 desktop.

If your PC is running on Windows 10 version 1909 or newer then you can follow the below steps to turn off News and Interests widget on Windows 10.

  1. Right-click on Taskbar on your Windows 10 PC running on version 1909 or newer, it will display a bunch of options to you. If News and Interests widget is available on your PC, then you can see the option after right clicking on the Taskbar. The option is listed between Search and Show Cortana button options. Click or hover the mouse to News and Interests widget option.

  2. Now you can see the three-customization options – Show icon and text, Show icon only (it display weather icon only), and Turn off.

  3. If you want to customize the widget then you can choose any of the two options. In case you want less clutter on your taskbar then you can simply choose Show icon only, it will display the weather icon on your taskbar, you can tap on it to explore more information.

  4. If you want to turn off or disable the news and interests widget, then you can simply click on Turn off option, it will stop showing the widget on your Windows 10 taskbar.

In case the feature is not available on your Windows 10 running PC, then I recommend you to update your PC to the recently released update.
